The members of the former Town of Delafield Fire Department are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former EMT Gerald "Jerry" Groth. Jerry felt a calling after many years of life experience to serve his community by pursuing an EMT license, and he went on to serve the residents of the Town of Delafield as an EMT with great pride. A number of years after his retirement, he offered to build a dining table for the new fire station that opened in 2015. Jerry knew we needed a place to eat a meal, but he may not have known just how many stories, lessons, jokes, laughs, tears, high-fives, and morning coffees would end up being shared around this fire station centerpiece.

Jerry never met a stranger -- he was truly a friend to all. Those who had the privilege to know him are already missing him dearly.

Rest easy, Jerry. We'll take it from here.

That's a wrap!

Thank you again to the residents of the Town of Delafield, and to the many supporters of this Department throughout its 101-year history. Your support means the world to all of us, and we hope we can count on the continued support of the community as we become part of Lake Country Fire & Rescue, along with our friends at the Wales Genesee Fire Department.

Thank you to Waukesha County Communications for helping us mark this milestone with final tone-outs for TDFD and WGFD, available here: https://lakecountryfire-my.sharepoint.com/:u:/p/jformea/ERQ6mxp9AORHizCeu_Di4AoBJ6TbxK03J7e2QP88mOXXeQ?e=dVZv8g

While many of our firefighters and EMTs will make the transition with us to Lake Country Fire & Rescue, others are excited to enter into retirement and are looking forward to a few less sleepless nights and many more uninterrupted dinners -- like Captain Mike Smaglick! After 27 years of service to the Town of Delafield, Capt. Smaglick will hang up his helmet for the final time this evening, and while we're sad that we've run our last call with him (just this afternoon!), we're happy to have many memories and the lessons he taught us all. Congratulations, Captain Smaglick!

As we look back on the unprecedented events of 2020, we're reminded of the continued dedication of our member firefighters and EMTs, not only over this past year, but over the Department's 101-year history. Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to present one of these amazing individuals, Nicole Cummings, with the coveted (and-last-ever!) 2020 Town of Delafield Fire Department Member of the Year award. Nicole was recognized by her peers and officers for her consistent leadership and dedication to helping her fellow EMTs further develop their skills and find their place in the Department. We are proud of Nicole and are happy we had the opportunity to honor her with a short socially-distanced and technology-assisted ceremony! Congratulations, Nicole!!

Tonight, as the Town of Delafield Fire Department closes its logbook for the last time, the members wish to extend their gratitude to the many community members, residents, and other partners who have contributed to our mission for the last 101 years. Tomorrow, many of these same firefighters and EMTs will continue to respond to the community's calls for service as part of Lake Country Fire & Rescue, and we are excited about the opportunities that await us to continue improving the level of emergency response afforded to the residents of the Town of Delafield.

Lake Country Fire Rescue is excited to announce our department is growing. Today we welcomed the Village of Oconomowoc Lake, Village of Wales, Town of Genesee & the Town of Delafield into a partnership with Lake Country Fire & Rescue.

LCFR currently services the City of Delafield, Village of Nashotah and the Village of Chenequa with Critical Care Paramedic level EMS service and an all hazards fire response. Starting on January 1, 2021 all of these communities will be served under Lake Country Fire & Rescue, increasing the level of EMS care all around and an increase in fire response capabilities, including dive rescue. This inter-municipal agreement and partnership with multiple communities brings a cost savings to our tax paying citizens while continuing to provide the highest level of service possible.

Members from all three Departments will come together as Lake Country Fire & Rescue staff, serving their communities under the direction of Fire Chief Matthew Fennig. We are all working hard to ensure a smooth transition in January. We want to thank the elected officials and every member from each fire department for their dedication and hard work to help support this partnership.

We are excited to be part of this partnership!

As Chief Paul Kozlowski officially enters into retirement, the men and women of the Town of Delafield Fire Department would like to congratulate him on over 27 years of dedication and service to this department, this community, and the surrounding areas. Chief Kozlowski has positively impacted many past, present, and future generations of firefighters and EMTs and has greatly improved the level of emergency services provided to our community.

As Chief Kozlowski places himself out-of-service for the final time, we hope he does so with great pride in his accomplishments and the elevated level of service he has brought to the residents of the Town of Delafield.

Here's to a long and happy retirement, Chief -- you deserve it!

Today, Chief Kozlowski took his final ride to the firehouse in an apparatus he holds near and dear to his heart, 3162. 3162 is a 1996 Marion engine, which was the first engine purchased specially for Town of Delafield Station 2, the station Chief Kozlowski worked out of for over 17 years. During Chief’s morning pick-up, we reminisced about the history of the Town of Delafield Fire Department and how far it has come.

Chief Kozlowski, we hope your final day here is filled with much more reminiscing and reflection on all the things you have contributed to this department and to this community over the past 27 years.
