Are you looking for something educational to do with the kids this summer? Do you want to see long-standing fire traditions in person, like the uncoupling of hoses and the pushing in of new apparatus? The DeLand Fire Department has TWO events coming up that offer the ability to witness fire service ceremony. Tours of the stations will be available as well as pictures with our firetrucks. Come celebrate with us - we'd love to have you!

Yesterday, AdventHealth stopped by Station 81 to recognize eight members of the DeLand Fire Department for CPR saves.

Congratulations to Mike Mueller, Darrin Griffin, Chrystal Hayes, Sid Stringer, Trent Sanders, Justin Bass, Christian Vallejo, and Adam Bruce. These recognitions represent real people who made it home because our crews were ready and did not hesitate.

Well done!

This morning, DeLand Fire was honored to support the Memorial Day Ceremony at Bill Dreggors Park as our community came together to remember those who gave everything in service to this country.

As President Calvin Coolidge said, β€œThe nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten.”

To our fallen heroes and the families who carry their memory: thank you. Today and every day.

At Monday's City Commission Meeting, the commissioners proclaimed May 17 through 23, 2026, as Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of DeLand.

It is a well-deserved recognition. EMS calls account for more than 70 percent of the DeLand Fire Department's responses. Our EMTs and paramedics are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, logging hundreds of hours of specialized training each year to make sure they are ready when someone's worst moment arrives.

To every EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, and first responder who shows up and does this work every single day: this week is yours. Thank you.

The DeLand Fire Department is proud to congratulate Christian Vallejo on his promotion to Engineer, pinned last night at the City Commission Meeting by his family.

Christian joined DeLand Fire in 2022, bringing with him a strong foundation from his time as a Paramedic with Volusia County EMS. In four years with the department, he has continued building on that foundation. He is a certified pump operator, FLUSAR Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, and CPR Instructor, and he gives back to the department as a field training officer helping develop the next generation of paramedics and EMTs.

Outside the station, Christian is husband to Bekah, who has supported him every step of the way, and dad to two daughters, Norah and MJ, who he credits as a driving force behind everything he does. His family was there to celebrate with him, pinning his badge to his uniform.

Congratulations, Engineer Vallejo. Your family, your crew, and your community are proud of you.

The DeLand Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Ray Griffin to Lieutenant.

Ray came to DeLand in 2000 when his father, a retired law enforcement officer, moved the family here from Dover, New Jersey. After graduating from DeLand High School in 2007, he joined the Navy and served on active duty for nine years before transitioning to the Navy Reserves when he and his wife Zoe returned home to start their family.

He has been with DeLand Fire since November 2018. In seven years, he has built a record that speaks for itself. Ray holds a Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Services from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, an AA from Daytona State College, and certifications as a FLUSAR Rescue Specialist, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector, CPR Instructor, and Paramedic. He has been recognized with a Life Saving Medal from the West Volusia Chamber of Commerce Valor Awards and a Distinguished Service Medal from the Department. He also serves as Treasurer for DeLand Professional Firefighters Local 4347.

his badge was pinned by his wife Zoe, a Nurse Practitioner in Neurosurgery at Orlando Health, and their eight-year-old son Connor, who attends Saint Barnabas Episcopal School here in DeLand.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Griffin. This one was well earned.

Not every rescue involves a burning building!

DeLand Fire crews responded to a call that was a little outside the ordinary: a kitten stuck inside the cross-member tube of a vehicle engine compartment. Turns out the disabled car had been sitting long enough that a family of cats had decided to move in.

When FF Taylor, Engineer Paul Murray, and their crew arrived, the owner had already pulled the front tire and started taking the vehicle apart trying to help. Our crew got to work, using spreaders and a big easy tool to free the kitten safely.

Sometimes the job is saving lives. Sometimes it is saving nine of them. Either way, we show up.
