🛑 Speed Check: Do You Know Your Stopping Distance?

E-bikes are faster AND heavier than regular bikes. That means longer stopping distances:
🚲 10 mph → 29–39 ft (about 2 car lengths)
⚡ 20 mph → 71–111 ft (about half a city block)
🚀 28 mph → 114–194 ft (nearly a full city block!)

70% of your stopping power comes from the front brake. Practice using both brakes together and brake earlier than you think you need to.

Standard bikes weigh 20–40 lbs. E-bikes weigh 40–80 lbs. More weight = more momentum = more distance to stop.

School’s out, summer is here, and so are the 100 Deadly Days of Summer, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen crashes increase nationwide.

In Florida alone, teen drivers were involved in more than 42,000 crashes in 2024.

This summer let’s flip the script. Parents, start the conversation. Set clear expectations and model safe driving habits.

It’s Wildlife Wednesday! 🦝 Florida's rainy season is here, but this mother and baby raccoon don’t mind the water. In fact, they often stay near a reliable water source, which makes this wildlife crossing under State Road 40 in Volusia County a perfect spot as it provides for safe crossing near the Little Tomoka River.

In wet conditions, motorists should lengthen their following distance to allow more time to stop for vehicles ahead of you. And if you see that a road is flooded, turn around, don’t drown!

Here's what to do if you see someone stuck on the SunRail tracks.

If it is safe to do so, find the Blue Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign and report the concern immediately. These signs are there to help you report urgent situations near the tracks. If you cannot locate the sign, dial 911.

Make it a habit to locate where the blue ENS signs are on your regular route. If you see something unusual near the tracks, call the number on the sign.

Knowing what to look for and how to respond helps keep everyone moving safely.
