The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has placed Wright County under burning restrictions due to an Air Quality Alert issued by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

Effective immediately:
• No burning permits may be activated in Wright County.
• No burning is allowed under permit until the Air Quality Alert is lifted.
• Burn barrels are not allowed.
• Campfires, as defined by Minnesota Statutes, are still allowed but are discouraged to help prevent further impacts to air quality.

Delano Fire Chief Matt Van Lith encourages residents to stay informed about burning restrictions by visiting the Minnesota DNR Fire Danger and Burning Restrictions website, which is updated regularly.

Residents are also encouraged to obtain electronic burning permits through the DNR. Electronic permits must be activated on the day of the burn. If restrictions are in place, the permit will not activate, providing immediate notice that burning is not allowed.

AEDs are back out in the community! You can find them at Central Park near the entrance to the Municipal Baseball Stadium, at the pickleball courts near Sculpture Park, and at River Front Park under the shade structure.

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. It's a portable, battery-operated device that analyzes a person's heart rhythm and can deliver an electrical shock to help restore a normal heartbeat during sudden cardiac arrest. These devices are designed to be simple and user-friendly, so anyone, even without medical training, can use them to help save a life.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has issued a Red Flag Warning for about half of the state for today (May 14). While Wright County is not in the Red Flag zone, it is designated as "Very High" in terms of fire danger risk due to a combination of high winds, low humidity and dry vegetation that can help a fire spread quickly. Residents are asked not to burn today because of the elevated risk.

The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING for today, Saturday, March 28, due to high winds and low humidity across much of Minnesota, including Wright County. This means fires can start easily and spread very quickly.

A reminder that no open burning is allowed today. This includes burning brush piles. Campfires are still allowed, but they must be contained in a fire ring and can be no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet.

Thank you for practicing fire safety!

Please join us in welcoming our newest recruits to the Delano Fire Department: Drew MacLeod, Nik Holland, Ben Marfio, and Jake Stumme.

They have officially begun fire training alongside other Wright County departments. The academy basic firefighter course takes approximately 5–6 months to complete and includes approximately 140 hours of instruction.
