DCS will implement an early dismissal for students on Friday, June 12, due to forecasted extreme heat and the resulting elevated and potentially unsafe temperatures inside many parts of the school buildings that are not air conditioned.
➡ Family pick-up for students in UPK-5 will start at 11:15 a.m.
➡ UPK bus dismissal will be at 11:15 a.m.
➡ Bus dismissal for grades K-5 will be at 11:30 a.m.
➡ Family pick-up and dismissal for students in grades 6–12 at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School will begin at 11:15 a.m.
Under New York State Education Law, it is recommended that schools take measures to address extreme heat conditions when indoor educational spaces reach 82°F or higher. Additionally, staff and students must be relocated from affected spaces when temperatures reach 88°F.
The district does have limited spaces available that are air conditioned, but they are not large enough to accommodate all students. The safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and this decision has been made out of an abundance of caution to ensure a safe learning and working environment.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the main office of your child’s school building.
