Congratulations to our 2026 City of Delaware Citizens Academy graduates!!

On Monday, City Council recognized this year's class with diplomas honoring their dedication to learning about their local government and the services that help make Delaware a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

This year's graduates are Sally George, Zach George, Randall K. Nottingham, John Shaw, Kevin Kelley, Ken Pleat, Bonnie Pleat, Christina Phillips, Sean Schneider, Barbara Cudia, Brad DeMent, Nathan Hickey, and Karen Smith.

Over the course of 10 sessions beginning in February, these residents met with staff from many of our departments, toured facilities, and learned how local government operates. They gained a valuable behind-the-scenes look at the services that keep Delaware running every day.

We thank this years class for your commitment to civic engagement and your investment in our community. We appreciate your dedication to learning more about the city you call home. Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Signups for the 2027 will begin early next year. You can also find more info here: https://www.delawareohio.net/government/city-hall/community-affairs/citizens-academy

Last night, Mayor Carolyn Riggle proclaimed the first week of June as National Public Works Week in the City of Delaware, recognizing the dedicated employees who work every day to keep our community safe, connected, and moving forward.

City Council was proud to take time to honor our Public Works team and Director Bill Ferrigno for their outstanding service to Delaware residents.

The recognition comes on the heels of a major achievement for the department. Earlier this year, Delaware was named a recipient of the American Public Works Association's 2026 Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award, one of only seven agencies in North America to earn the distinction.

From maintaining roads and utilities to responding to winter storms and delivering critical infrastructure projects, our Public Works professionals work behind the scenes every day to improve quality of life for everyone in Delaware.

Please join us in thanking these hardworking public servants for all they do. 👏🚜❄️🚧

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 13th Annual Olentangy River Festival this past weekend! A rainy start gave way to sunshine, and visitors enjoyed live music, games, and hands‑on environmental education from a variety of partner organizations.

A special congratulations to this year’s Conservation Award honorees: Russ Gibson and The Onion Bag Litter Prevention Project. The Conservation Awards were created to elevate and celebrate the individuals, businesses, and organizations making significant efforts to reduce pollution and protect our ecosystems within the Olentangy River Watershed.

Russ Gibson has been a Delaware resident for 35 years and has spent many of those years protecting Ohio’s natural resources through his work with ODNR, Ohio EPA, and Coldwater Consulting. His leadership in watershed restoration—including advancing dam removal projects along the Olentangy River and supporting local land conservation—has helped restore aquatic connectivity, improve habitat, and expand public access in the region.

The Onion Bag Litter Prevention Project is a nonprofit dedicated to keeping Ohio’s waterways clean. Their reusable‑bag boxes are installed at more than 200 sites statewide, including three within the Olentangy Watershed in partnership with FLOW. They have long supported Delaware’s river cleanups by providing bags, volunteers, and equipment, helping reduce litter and promote stewardship across the community.

Looking ahead, the Onion Bag team is hosting the 5 Lakes Challenge, a series of nine cleanups across five central Ohio reservoirs from July 20–24. Two of these events take place right here in the Olentangy River Watershed at Delaware Lake:
• July 22 at the Delaware Reservoir
• July 24 at the Griggs Reservoir

It’s a great opportunity to get involved, give back, and help keep our waterways clean.
