Last night, Orange Township firefighters responded to a reported kitchen fire on Red Oak Street in the Evans Farm subdivision.

Thanks to the awareness and preparedness of the occupants and nearby neighbors, the fire was extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived. Orange Township crews quickly confirmed the fire was out, checked for any hidden extension, and ensured the home was safe.

Because of the quick actions taken, the home sustained only minimal damage, and the occupants were able to remain in their home overnight.

A house fire can double in size approximately every 60 seconds, making early detection and immediate action critical. Having a working fire extinguisher—and knowing how to use it—can make a significant difference when a fire is still small and it is safe to do so.

Orange Township Fire Department offers fire extinguisher training classes for residents and businesses interested in learning how to properly use a portable fire extinguisher. If you are interested in scheduling a class, please contact the department for more information.

This incident is also a great reminder to:

Check your smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries as needed.
Ensure you have a fire extinguisher in or near your kitchen.
Practice a home fire escape plan with everyone in your household.
We commend the occupants and neighbors for their quick thinking and preparedness, which helped prevent a much more serious incident.

Today's training put our drivers' precision and control to the test with a fire apparatus obstacle course.

Maneuvering a fire truck through tight spaces takes more than just driving. It requires skill, focus, and countless hours of practice. Crews worked through a series of obstacles designed to sharpen their backing, turning, and vehicle placement skills, all while operating one of the largest pieces of equipment on the road.

Training like this helps ensure our firefighters can safely and efficiently position apparatus when every second counts.
