Press Release
May 29, 2026

Delaware County has continued to transition operations of the senior meals program after Delaware Opportunities abruptly ceased operating the program on May 7, 2026. Since May 8, 2026, the Delaware County Office for the Aging has supported Senior meals both at congregate meal sites and through home meal deliveries. As the operation of senior meals continues to ramp up as a county run program the following updates are offered.

The following congregate meal sites are now fully staffed and operational:
• Dehi senior dining center – 97 Main Street Delhi
• Hancock senior dining center – Messenger Hall at the First Baptist Church – 56 Wheeler Street Hanock
• Walton senior dining center – St John’s Catholic Church – 15 Benton Avenue, Walton
• Grand Gorge senior dining center – Grand Gorge Civic Center – Route 30 Grand Gorge

The Margaretville senior meals dining center is open and located back in the Margaretville Methodist Church at 55 Church Street, Margaretville. We are looking to hire a Head Cook and one additional Aide at that location.

The Sidney senior dining center has been temporarily relocated to the Sidney Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney. On Monday June 1, 2026 that site will be operational to serve meals on site and prepare meals for home delivery. We are looking to hire one Aide and one Driver for this location. The County continues to work with the owners of the Sidney Senior Housing site to permanently relocate senior meals back to the senior nutrition site at 21 Liberty Street Sidney.

Over the course of the past three weeks Delaware County has successfully hired staff to support all congregate meal sites with only four remaining vacancies for one cook, two aides and one driver. Former Delaware Opportunities’ staff were encouraged to reach out to the County for placement, many who have been hired and have been instrumental in keeping the program running smoothly. If you are interested in county employment, please contact the Delaware County personnel office to inquire about these positions. All employees filling these positions are being compensated at a higher rate than previously offered and as county employees each employee has access to the county contractual fringe benefits.

Delaware County congratulates Paul Rush, Deputy Commissioner of the New York City DEP, on his retirement next week after more than 30 years of service and a longstanding relationship with the county. For more than 25 years, Paul has been known as a true partner—someone who listened with genuine interest, understood local concerns, and worked to find fair solutions for both New York City’s water supply and the needs of Delaware County communities.

From the early FAD discussions in the 1990s to helping shape last fall’s Intergovernmental Agreement, Paul played a key role in guiding a complicated but important relationship through changing politics, new regulations, and uncertain times. He brought professionalism, integrity, and understanding to every challenge, and his efforts helped create a stronger foundation for future negotiations.

To honor his service, Delaware County presented Paul with a photo collage of its three historic covered bridges—symbols of tradition and history, resilience, and success. A fitting tribute to someone who has served as an important bridge between New York City and Delaware County for so many years. Best wishes to Paul in his retirement and future endeavors.

Tina Molé, Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairman, and Paul Rush’s full comments from the May 27, 2026 meeting can be viewed at:
