The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been in continuous operation since 1797 and currently serves an estimated 46,000 citizens spread thinly across its 1,468 square miles. Although there are no major cities in the county, it is traversed by two interstate highways (88 and 17). There are 10 villages and 19 towns in one of upstate New York’s most picturesque locations for cultural activities a

nd outdoor sport and recreation attractions . In fact, it is estimated that our weekend population expands by 20,000 people who come to tour or visit their vacation/second homes throughout our lush, lake-abounding landscape. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is located in a state-of-the-art facility in the Public Safety Building at 280 Phoebe Lane, Delhi, New York and maintains a website at http://www.co.delaware.ny.us/departments/shrf/shrf.htm
to keep the public informed of its day-to-day operations. DuMond and the current Undersheriff Is Kim S. Each year the Office expands its capabilities. Most recent accomplishments include the reactivation of the Mounted Patrol and the establishment of a K-9 Division, as well as a School Resource Officer. The Sheriff’s Office, combined with its Corrections Division has an estimated staff of 108 employees who are assigned to its Administration, Civil, Corrections, Investigative, K-9 and Road Patrol Divisions.

PRESS RELEASE: NICOLE EMERICH

June 3rd, 2026

Kortright, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Downsville resident for driving with a suspended license.

On June 3rd, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Kortright. Upon arrival on scene, patrols made contact with the operator who was identified as 37-year-old Nicole Emerich of Downsville, NY.

Following a check with the NYS DMV, it was discovered that Emerich’s driving privileges in the State of New York were suspended for failing to answer a summons.

Emerich was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 3rd Degree, an unclassified misdemeanor, as well as Unlicensed Operator, a violation, both of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Emerich was released on tickets and directed to appear in the Town of Kortright Court at a later date to answer the charges.

PRESS RELEASE: JERSON MARTINEZ-LOPEZ

June 2nd, 2026

Hancock, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Louisiana man on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

On Tuesday evening, June 2nd, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint of a vehicle traveling westerly in the east bound lane on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock.

Deputies located a vehicle that was running, parked on the eastbound shoulder facing a westerly direction along with the driver who was asleep at the wheel. Upon making contact and interviewing the driver, Deputies identified him as 27-year-old as Jerson Martinez-Lopez of Louisiana. Upon conclusion of their investigation, Deputies found that Martinez-Lopez had been operating the vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

Deputies subsequently arrested and charged Martinez-Lopez with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way Street, Unlicensed Operator, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 3rd degree, Broken Windshield and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.

Upon completion of arrest processing, Martinez-Lopez was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment at the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court.

PRESS RELEASE: MAKAYLA SPECHT

May 28th, 2026

Delhi, NY- Today, Sheriff Craig S. Dumond announced the arrest of a Delhi resident on charges of unlawfully dealing with a child.

On January 28th, 2026, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were assigned to investigate a complaint which involved an adult providing alcoholic beverages to a child. Subsequent investigation into the complaint revealed that on the 25th day of December, 2025, Makayla Specht provided alcoholic beverages to a child less than 21 years of age, while in the Town of Kortright.

On May 28th, 2026, at the conclusion of the investigation, Investigators arrested 28-year-old Makayla Specht on a Criminal Summons issued by the Town of Kortright Court for one count of Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the 1st degree, a class A misdemeanor, in violation of the NYS Penal Law.

Specht was released on the summons, which directed her to appear at the Town of Kortright Court at a later date to answer the charge.

PRESS RELEASE: DOMINICK FORTE III

May 29th, 2026

Harpersfield, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Harpersfield resident upon the ex*****on of a bench warrant.

On May 29th, 2026, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies located and arrested 66-year-old Dominick Forte III, of Harpersfield, NY on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Harpersfield Court. The Bench Warrant was issued in regard to Forte having failed to appear at his previously scheduled court date in the Town of Harpersfield Court on a charge stemming from an arrest that occurred in December of 2025.

Forte was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held pending his arraignment at the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP ) Court.

PRESS RELEASE: BRUCE BATURA

June 3rd, 2026

Colchester, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Florida resident for Driving While Intoxicated following a traffic stop.

On June 3rd, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on River Road in the Town of Colchester after observing a vehicle failing to keep right and having a obstructed rear license plate. Upon making contact with the operator, Deputies identified him as 68-year-old Bruce Batura of Pompano Beach, Florida.

Upon completion of the investigation, Deputies arrested and charged Bruce Batura with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs/Alcohol Combination, a misdemeanor, as well as Failure to Keep Right, Obstructed Rear License Plate and Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, all violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Upon completion of arrest processing, Batura was released on traffic summonses returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

PRESS RELEASE: NOEL T. WILDEY

June 2nd, 2026

Walton, NY– Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced that a Walton resident was arrested on an arrest warrant issued by the Masonville Town Court.

On October 16th, 2024, The Delaware County Sheriff's Office - Civil Division conducted an eviction at a residence located in the Town of Masonville. During the course of the eviction, a male subject within the residence refused to identify himself, giving Officers several false names. The male subject was subsequently identified as 48- year-old Noel T. Wildey of Walton, NY.

As a result, Deputies arrested and charged Wildey with False Personation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree. Wildey was processed and released on appearance tickets to reappear at the Masonville Town Court at a later date to answer the aforesaid charges. Wildey later failed to show up as directed, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued by the Masonville Town Court on February 4th, 2025.

On June 2nd, 2026, Wildey turned himself into the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office where he was subsequently arraigned at Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court and was released on his own recognizance to reappear in the Masonville Town Court at a later date.

Remembering D-Day – June 6, 1944

Today, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office joins our nation in honoring the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to freedom changed the course of history and secured the liberties we enjoy today. We remember those who gave their lives, those who returned home as heroes, and the generations of service members who have followed in their footsteps.

As we reflect on the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served our country.

Delaware County Law Enforcement Academy graduates nine new Corrections Officers

Delhi, NY- On Thursday, June 4th, 2026, Sheriff Craig DuMond and the Delaware County Law Enforcement Academy proudly recognized nine newly certified graduates of its Basic Corrections Officer Course at a ceremony held at the Public Safety Building.

Surrounded by family, friends, coworkers, and academy staff, the graduates from both the Delaware and Otsego County Sheriff's Offices were recognized for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving their communities. The ceremony marked the culmination of weeks of intensive training designed to prepare them for the important responsibilities that come with a career in corrections.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond addressed the graduates, celebrating their achievement and welcoming them into their law enforcement family. Sheriff DuMond spoke of the historic foundation of the Sheriff's Office, and of the professionalism, integrity, and service expected of those who wear the uniform, as well as recognizing the sacrifices made by both the graduates and their loved ones throughout the training process.

The nine new Officers now officially join the ranks of corrections professionals who work each day to ensure the safety and security of our facilities, fellow staff members, and the public.

We congratulate these graduates on this significant accomplishment and wish them success and safety in their careers.

PRESS RELEASE: JONESHA T. FLORVILUS

May 14th, 2026

Sidney, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Kingston, PA woman following a traffic stop.

On Thursday evening, May 14th, 2026, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Kingston, PA woman following a traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 88 in the Town of Sidney. Following a check with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, Sheriff’s Deputies found that the operator, identified as 23-year-old Jonesha T. Florvilus of Kingston, PA, had a suspended New York State driver’s license.

Florvilus was subsequently charged with the misdemeanor offense of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd degree and was issued traffic summonses for Speed in Zone and Unlicensed Operator. Florvilus was released and directed to appear in the Town of Sidney court at a later date to answer the charges.
