American Stroke Association - May is American Stroke Month

Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age. Recognizing the warning signs of stroke can help you take action in the moments that matter. Learn the signs of stroke and how to lower the risk for another one.

When you spot a stroke warning sign, be fast. Recognizing the stroke warning signs and calling 911 immediately may make the difference between a strong recovery or long-term disability; survival or death.

Medical Directors Dr. Dave Afienko and Dr. Mike Doyle recognized our 2025 Lifesavers with a life savers pin at our recent continuing medical education (CME) sessions. Each of the EMS providers pictured participated in a response where a person whose heart had stopped was revived through their efforts. Of the 18 people in cardiac arrest receiving CPR, defibrillation, and advanced medical care, seven had their hearts restarted and several recovered and went home from the hospital to resume their lives.

As we start this week we would like to take a moment to take say thank you to our wonderful dispatchers from Bethlehem Police and Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Every 911 call begins with a voice—your voice.

In someone’s darkest moment, you are the calm, the strength, the lifeline. You hear the fear, the chaos, the heartbreak… and still, you answer with courage and compassion.

Before the sirens, before help arrives—you are already saving lives.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 12–18), we honor the heroes behind the headset.

From all of us at Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, thank you for being there when it matters most. 💛📞🚑

Training is a constant activity to keep us ready to do our best for the community. This month every Delmar-Bethlehem EMS volunteer and Albany County Sheriff's Office EMS Division career EMS responder gathered for joint training on innovative equipment and protocols. Paramedics trained on new ventilators for respiratory support and EMTs learned how to place an advanced supraglottic airway for patients in cardiac arrest. These photos capture our CME sessions for some of the more than 100 EMS responders that provide 24-7-365 ambulance response in the Town of Bethlehem.
