Most people will never see what you see.

They won’t walk into the scenes.
They won’t notice the details.
They won’t understand how small things can change everything.

But they rely on the outcome.
They rely on you getting it right.
That’s the part of this work that doesn’t get talked about enough.

It’s not just investigation...it’s responsibility.

Thank you to all law enforcement officers. It is an honor to work alongside you! We have the best in our community!💙🖤

Many of us wear multiple of the uniforms shown, and to those who stand along the frontlines with us….thank you!! We are blessed to work with the best in our community and the surrounding communities!!

Every responder has a story.

Some wear uniforms that the world recognizes instantly.

Others stand quietly in the background, unseen but absolutely essential.

Together, they form the final line of protection, compassion, and strength for our communities.

Police. Sheriff. Corrections. Military. Firefighters. EMTs. Nurses. Coroners. Dispatchers. Search and Rescue. Medics. Death Investigators. Funeral and Transport Workers. Volunteers. Chaplains.

Every role different.

Every burden heavy.

Every life touched, changed, or saved because they showed up.

Responders walk into chaos so others can walk out.

They face trauma so others can find peace.

They stand between danger and safety, between sorrow and dignity, between tragedy and truth.

Long nights.

Missed holidays.

Emotional scars no one sees.

Silent resilience.

Invisible strength.

We honor those who protect.

Those who heal.

Those who comfort.

Those who carry the weight no one else could.

To every responder - whether on the front lines, behind the scenes, or answering the calls no one wants to make - you are not forgotten.

You are valued.

You are needed.

And you make the world safer, kinder, and stronger simply by showing up.

This is for you.

For all of you.

For united service, shared purpose, and unwavering courage.

Thank you, Responders

This is sometimes one the hardest parts of the job, but one of the most important. It can be very time consuming as well.

The Search for Next of Kin — One of the Most Important Parts of What We Do

When someone passes away, one of our most sacred duties begins — finding and notifying their next of kin.

It’s not always as simple as checking a driver’s license or calling a family member. In many cases, we start with only fragments — a first name, an old address, a tattoo, a piece of mail, or a phone found at the scene. From there, investigators begin carefully piecing together the story of who this person was and who loved them.

We search databases, review medical and law enforcement records, contact employers, hospitals, and neighbors. We follow leads from social media, handwritten notes, or even conversations with friends and community members. Sometimes, we work across counties or states to find a single person who may not even know their loved one has passed.

Every call, every search, every confirmation is guided by one principle: no one should ever be left wondering what happened to someone they love.

When we finally find the right person — the mother, the son, the best friend — that moment matters. It is often one of the hardest and most human parts of this work. We prepare ourselves to deliver life-changing news with as much compassion and honesty as possible.

For the public, these steps are invisible. But for us, they are sacred.
It’s not just about closing a case — it’s about connection, dignity, and respect.

Saw this info on another coroner’s page and thought it would be a good question to answer for the public…

Why Doesn’t the Coroner’s Office Release Information as Quickly as Other Agencies?

When someone passes away, the investigation that follows isn’t simple - and it’s never rushed.

Every death investigation is a careful process meant to bring truth, closure, and dignity to the person who died and to their loved ones.

Before any information is released, multiple steps must be completed and reviewed. The coroner’s role is to make sure that what’s shared is accurate - not just fast.

Once incorrect information is made public, it can spread quickly and cause unnecessary pain. Accuracy takes time, and the families we serve deserve nothing less.

Sometimes, reaching next of kin takes time too.

We work hard to ensure that loved ones hear the news in the most compassionate and private way possible - not from social media or the rumor mill. Before we make contact, we have to complete parts of the investigation and gather enough information to explain what we know and what comes next.

Death investigations don’t follow a clock — they follow a process. While it may take longer for information to come from the Coroner’s Office, that time is spent doing things the right way: with care, integrity, and respect for the deceased and their families.
