In conjunction with the Delphos City School District the School Resource Officer program was created and implemented in 2023. The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a law enforcement officer who is assigned to work within a school or educational institution. Safety and Security: The SRO's main responsibility is to maintain a safe and secure environment within the school. This includes conducting regular patrols of the school grounds and buildings, monitoring entrances and exits, and responding to any security concerns or emergencies. Law Enforcement and Crime Prevention: SROs act as law enforcement officers within the school setting. They enforce local, state, and federal laws and regulations, as well as the school's policies and rules. SROs may investigate incidents of criminal activity, such as theft, vandalism, or drug-related offenses that occur on school property. They may also collaborate with school administrators to develop and implement strategies to prevent crime and promote a positive school climate. Relationship Building: SROs often develop positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. They serve as a resource and point of contact for students who may need assistance or have concerns related to safety or security. SROs may also provide guidance and educational programs on topics such as drug prevention, bullying, and internet safety.
