Tonight, our members took part in a hands on training exercise using building blocks to reinforce the importance of clear and effective radio communications. While stacking blocks may seem simple, the challenge quickly demonstrated how critical it is to give clear instructions, actively listen, acknowledge messages, and work together toward a common goal.
Just like on the fireground, every transmission matters. A missed detail, unclear direction, or lack of communication can change the outcome of an incident. Through exercises like this, our firefighters strengthen the skills that translate directly to real world emergencies improving teamwork, situational awareness, accountability, and decision-making under pressure.
Training doesn’t always involve fire, smoke, or hoses. Sometimes the best lessons come from simple exercises that reinforce the fundamentals.
