The Old School Square Center for the Arts family is beyond saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Frances Bourque.
Frances was the founder of Old School Square Center for the Arts. Her vision and determination led to the creation of both the Old School Square Center for the Arts nonprofit and the Old School Square campus.
She was a dedicated, inspiring and passionate leader who led the charge to revitalize neglected buildings and establish them as not just our organizations home, but most importantly, a vibrant hub for the arts, the community, and as a community gathering place that we all know and love as Old School Square.
Her unwavering commitment and passion for the arts transformed not only the landscape of our community but also the lives of those who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Frances’s legacy was woven into every program, every event, and every joyful gathering that filled the halls of Old School Square for the 32+ years that we occupied the buildings. She was the biggest of our beating hearts.
Renowned for her articulate communication, extensive knowledge, mentorship, advocacy, and ability to foster strong relationships both professionally and personally, she earned the respect and admiration of so many in our village by the sea. Frances was that rare soul who had the ability to bring everybody to the table to ensure everyone in the community shared in the vision and success of Old School Square.
Through challenges and triumphs, she led with grace, courage, and an infectious enthusiasm that inspired all around her. The light she brought will continue to shine as a beacon for future generations, reminding us of what is possible when one person believes deeply in the power of community and the arts.
We were blessed to have Frances as a part of our family and team. She will always be in our hearts.
Her loss reverberates deeply through our hearts and throughout the community she helped to shape.
From those of us who are extended family,
The past and present Board of Directors of Old School Square Center for the Arts.
