National Safety Month Reminder from Swancreek Township

June is National Safety Month, an annual reminder from the National Safety Council to focus on preventing injuries at work, on the road, at home, and throughout the community.

This year’s weekly safety topics include:
• June 1-6: Moving Safety Forward
• June 7-13: Staying Safe on the Roads
• June 14-20: Promoting Holistic Worker Health
• June 21-30: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Residents, families, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to take small steps this month that can help prevent accidents and protect those around us.

A few simple reminders:
• Report hazards when you see them
• Drive safely and stay alert on the road
• Keep walkways clear to help prevent slips, trips, and falls
• Take breaks, stay hydrated, and look out for worker health
• Be a good safety role model at work, at home, and in the community

As temperatures rise, Swancreek Township encourages residents to take heat safety seriously and use the resources available through the National Weather Service.

Extreme heat can be dangerous for anyone, but young children, older adults, people with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, outdoor workers, and those without reliable air conditioning may be at higher risk.

A few reminders during hot weather:
• Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade
• Check on elderly neighbors, loved ones, and those without air conditioning
• Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
• Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a vehicle
• Know the signs of heat-related illness and act quickly if someone is overheated

Road construction in Swancreek Township is expected to begin Today, Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Work will be taking place in different areas throughout the Township. Because both Township road projects and county road projects may be happening around the same time, a specific list of roads is not available at this time.

Residents should be aware that construction may be spread throughout the Township over the coming days and weeks. Please use caution when traveling through work areas, watch for crews and equipment, and allow extra time when needed.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as these road improvements are completed.

The Hoppin N Trottin 4-H group recently attended a special Swancreek Township Board of Trustees meeting to learn more about how township government works.

During the meeting, the group discussed what happens at a township meeting, how items are handled, and why local government matters. Their officers then had the opportunity to sit at the trustee table and run a meeting of their own with guidance from the trustees.

On Election Day, this is a great reminder that it is never too early to learn how government works, ask questions, and understand the role local leadership plays in our communities.

We are glad to see the leaders of tomorrow taking an interest and wanting to learn!
