After a lot of thought, discussion, and prayer, Travis has made the decision not to run for reelection as Central Vice President of the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments. Over the past several years, he has proudly served in this role, and before that, he served as District 4 Director.

I joined the AAVFD Auxiliary the year Travis was first elected to an office, and together we have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. This was not a decision we made lightly because the people of the AAVFD have become family to us. We have learned so much from this association and will miss seeing everyone as often as we have in the past.

Saying goodbye and sharing those final hugs at the state conference today was harder than we expected because these are people we love and deeply respect.

Travis is still proudly serving as Chief of Shinbone Valley VFD, Chairman of the Clay County Fire Association, Plant Manager at EMSCO, and most importantly, he is the best husband, father, and Pawpaw our family could ask for.

Sometimes, taking a step back isn't giving up—it's making room to be the very best version of yourself. We are grateful for this chapter, thankful for the friendships we've made, and excited to see what the future holds.

Send us your favorite recipes along with a special photograph that tells your story. Whether it’s a cherished time in the kitchen, a grandmother teaching a grandchild to cook, or a treasured recipe that has been passed down through generations, we would love to include it.

These recipes and memories will help make The Shinbone Valley Cookbook more than just a collection of recipes—it will become a keepsake that families can treasure and pass down for generations to come.

We are proud to have hosted the Dustin Lowery Benefit, sponsored by Pink Heals Eastern Alabama.
Dustin is 15 years old and has been courageously battling cancer since he was just 9 years old. He is a true fighter who loves life and loves to have fun. Since racing is Dustin’s number one passion, we wanted to give him a day centered around something he truly enjoys.

Dustin was all smiles as he rode in the passenger seat of the Pink Heals fire truck that began at Hooligan Harley-Davidson in Oxford and ended at Shinbone Valley Fire Department.

Throughout the day, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sharing great food, seeing race cars, and even enjoying the dunking booth.

We are honored to share that this benefit raised nearly $10,000 for the Lowery family. Our prayer is that we were able to provide Dustin with a joyful distraction and create special memories that will carry him through the difficult days ahead.

There are so many people who helped make this day possible, and we have a long list of thank-yous to share. We will dedicate a separate post later today to recognize those individuals and organizations.
Unfortunately, Facebook will not allow us to post photos and videos together, so there will be four separate posts showcasing Dustin’s special day.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dustin, Pink Heals Eastern Alabama, and Shinbone Valley Fire Department. Your generosity, kindness, and support helped make this benefit a tremendous success and reminded Dustin and his family that they are surrounded by a community that loves them.

❤️ What a wonderful accomplishment—raising nearly $10,000 and giving Dustin a day full of smiles and support.
