Press Release- For Immediate Release

Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Approximately One Pound of Methamphetamine

Delta, CO, June 1, 2026 — on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, the Delta Police Department K9 Unit conducted a routine traffic stop near Highway 50 and 1400 Lane.

During the stop, the male driver consented to a search of the vehicle. While conducting the search, officers located approximately one pound of methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was transported to the Delta County Jail without incident.

The Delta Police Department takes incidents involving the distribution and possession of illegal narcotics very seriously. We remain committed to proactively enforcing drug laws and removing dangerous substances from our streets to help keep our community safe.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case remains under investigation. There is no further information available at this time.

Delta Police Department strives to serve the community through integrity and honor, while in constant pursuit of excellence.

Our staff had a wonderful time at the End of the School Year Summer BBQ with the Delta Family Center/BELA Preschool☀️

Thank you for having us join the fun. It is always a blast seeing so many happy kiddos ready to take on summer, graduate from preschool, and grow more each year! A big thank you to the wonderful teachers and guides who spend so much time teaching, supporting, and learning alongside these awesome kids. It is always great seeing families come together to kick off summer break.

As summer begins and more kids are out walking, biking, and playing, we want to remind everyone to stay extra cautious on the roads:

🚲 Kids on bikes should always wear a helmet and use hand signals when possible.
🚸 Drivers-slow down near parks, neighborhoods, and crosswalks, and always watch carefully for children crossing the street.
🛴 Remind kids to look both ways before crossing and to stay alert around traffic.
☀️ With summer activities in full swing, patience and awareness can help keep everyone safe.

We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable summer break!

As we get closer to a wonderful and fun event like the 4th of July, we’ll be sharing important safety information to help keep everyone safe during the 2026 Western Sky Balloon Festival.

A Personal Firework Ban will be in effect at Confluence Park on July 4th from 7:00 PM–10:00 PM.

Hot air balloons operate using highly flammable propane fuel systems, and even small fireworks or sparklers can create serious fire hazards. Embers can travel long distances and may damage balloon fabric and equipment.

No personal fireworks, sparklers, or open-flame devices will be permitted within Confluence Park during the ban.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide a safe and enjoyable celebration for all attendees, pilots, crews, volunteers, and staff.

A moment for the Class of 2026… wow, you did it! 🎓

Years of hard work, long nights, and dedication have all led to this moment. Today is your day, and your team at the Delta Police Department could not be more proud of the Delta High School graduating class of 2026.

Take a deep breath and enjoy every moment, this is such an incredible milestone to celebrate.

Officers Lehr, Melgoza, and Commander Lang enjoyed walking the paintings on 9th Street Hill, a long-standing tradition for Delta High School graduates and a special way to celebrate this milestone alongside the community.

Celebrate safely and responsibly tonight, and remember: you are the future generation that will help guide the world forward. Congratulations, grads! 💙

Stay safe tonight, celebrate responsibly, and call us if you need us.
