⚠️Reminder - Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are still in effect for Delta County! While areas of Delta County received some rain a few weeks ago, that much needed moisture was not enough to alleviate the extreme fire conditions we are in across Delta County and Western Colorado. For the safety of everyone, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions remain in effect!

As a reminder:
❎ NO Campfires or Bonfires;
❎ NO Open Burning or Ag Burning of Fields
❎ NO Charcoal BBQ Grills, Wood Fire Pits or Tiki Torches
❎ NO Smoking in or disposing of ci******es in combustible material
❎ NO driving off established roadways on public lands or parking in tall dry grass - only park in established parking areas
❎ NO Fireworks of Any Kind including tracer ammunition

It is hot, dry, windy with record low fuel moisture levels in brush at all levels, including high elevation vegetation. Please help prevent another wildfire from starting in Delta County by strictly adhering to Fire Restrictions and remember - One Less Spark, One Less Wildfire!

After careful consideration of current local and regional conditions, the Delta Volunteer Fire Department in coordination with the City, have decided to postpone the July 4th fireworks display. Public safety is our highest priority and this is the safest course of action for our community. A rescheduled date has not yet been determined and will depend on future variables.

In light of the current fire risk, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are now in effect throughout Delta County. We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the restrictions and do their part to help prevent wildfires. Learn more here: https://deltacountyco.gov/138/Fire-Restrictions

Additionally, City Council has scheduled a Special Meeting tonight, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., to discuss the sale of fireworks within Delta city limits.

While the fireworks show has been postponed, the celebration is far from over! The Western Sky Balloon Festival is still set to deliver an incredible Independence Day weekend packed with hot air balloons, a spectacular drone show, parade, live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, family activities, a foam party, and so much more. We hope you'll come out, celebrate our great nation and state, and enjoy everything the festival has to offer!

As wildfires continue to impact communities across the Western Slope, many of us are experiencing smoky skies and unhealthy air quality here in Delta County. While we hope conditions improve soon, now is the perfect time to take a few simple steps to protect your health and prepare your household.

Wildfire smoke can affect everyone, but it can be especially difficult for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those living with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions. If the smoke is heavy, consider limiting time outdoors, keeping windows and doors closed, and following local air quality recommendations.

Just as important, take a few minutes to make sure you're prepared if conditions change. Have a plan, know multiple evacuation routes, keep your vehicle fueled, gather important medications and documents, and don't forget to include your pets in your emergency planning.

Prepared communities save lives.

We also encourage everyone to check in on family members, friends, and neighbors who may need a little extra help during periods of poor air quality or an evacuation. A simple phone call or knock on the door can make a meaningful difference.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
