Yesterday, our fire department personnel responded to a residential fire and were able to quickly mitigate the situation — but not without leaving the family facing a very difficult time.
Thanks to the quick thinking and compassion of our on-duty crews, the Deltona Firefighters Foundation was contacted to see how we could help. We’ve already started the process with a small donation and are working to coordinate additional assistance for the family.
At this time, we are asking our community for help with:
•Little girl clothing/shoes – Size 4T
•Little boy clothing/shoes – Size 3T
We will continue to provide updates as we work to support this family during their time of need. Thank you, Deltona, for always stepping up when it matters most. ❤️

Today marks the start of EMS Week, and we are incredibly grateful to the Mayor, City Commission, City Manager, and his staff for presenting the Deltona Fire Department with the City of Deltona Proclamation recognizing EMS Week.

Thank you for your continued support of our department and for everything you do behind the scenes to help keep Deltona Fire Department running strong. Your partnership and dedication to our community mean so much to all of us.

Join us in congratulating Chief Bush Swisher on his well deserved retirement after a remarkable 33 year career with Deltona Fire Rescue. Chief Swisher began his career as a firefighter and rose through the ranks, earning the respect of all who had the privilege to serve alongside him. He was a founding member of our Special Operations Team and Honor Guard, and also served the community as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room.

Throughout his career, he has served with honor, integrity, and compassion. His commitment to the community of Deltona and the countless lives he’s impacted has helped shape the department into what it is today. His leadership, dedication, and passion for the fire service will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.

Thank you for your service, Chief Swisher. Wishing you a long, healthy, and well-earned retirement.

City of Deltona Announces New Fire Chief

The City of Deltona has appointed Assistant Chief Stephen Cousins as Fire Chief, effective May 2026. A 36-year fire service veteran, Chief Cousins brings strong leadership and experience to the role.

We thank Interim Chief Bush Swisher for his 10 years of dedicated service to the City of Deltona, the past seven months as Interim Chief. After 33 years in fire service, he will retire at the end of this month.

Chief Cousins has been instrumental in department operations and planning since joining the Deltona in 2021 and is well positioned to lead Deltona Fire Rescue into the future.

In 2025, based on individual unit dispatches, our department handled 20,622 responses, an increase of 935 calls over 2024 (19,689) — a 4.75% year-over-year increase in call volume.
