On August 11, 2026, at approximately 3:43 p.m., the Demarest Police Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire.

Demarest PD gained entry through a side door of the residence and conducted a brief search for potential occupants, yielding negative results.

The resident of the property subsequently arrived at the scene and advised Demarest PD that no one was inside of the residence at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

We would like to thank the Demarest Fire Department, all mutual-aid fire and EMS agencies, utilities companies, Alpine PD, and the Palisades Interstate Parkway PD for responding and assisting during this incident.

On August 11, 2026, at approximately 3:43 p.m., the Demarest Police Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire.

Today, we recognize the retirement of Lieutenant Michael Bartelucci as he concludes nearly three decades of service to the Demarest Police Department and the community.

Michael Bartelucci’s journey with the Demarest Police Department began in 1997 as a Police Explorer. In 2001, he continued his service as a Special Police Officer before being hired as a full-time Police Officer in 2004. Over the years, he served the department in a variety of roles, progressing from Explorer to Special Police Officer, Patrol Officer, and ultimately Lieutenant.

For much of his career, Michael Bartelucci worked the midnight shift, serving during hours when much of the community was asleep. Throughout those years, he served in his assigned roles and contributed to the department’s mission of serving and protecting the Borough.

Throughout his career, Michael Bartelucci was known not only as a colleague, but as a friend. His kindness, approachable nature, and the relationships he built over the years have been appreciated by those who had the opportunity to serve alongside him.

Law enforcement is a profession built on service, tradition, and those who dedicate a portion of their lives to protecting their communities. Each officer carries that responsibility for a time before passing it on to the next generation.
While Michael Bartelucci’s retirement marks the conclusion of his law enforcement career, it also marks the beginning of a new chapter. As one career comes to a close, others will continue the work, carrying forward the responsibilities and traditions of the profession.
After nearly three decades of public service, Michael Bartelucci now begins his retirement. We hope he enjoys every moment with his wife, Angela, and their children, Gabby and Gio, makes up for all those nights, weekends, and holidays spent away from home, and embraces everything retirement has to offer.
On behalf of everyone at the Demarest Police Department, thank you, Mike, for nearly three decades of service to our community, for the countless hours you have given to this department, and for the friendships you’ve built along the way. We wish you continued health, happiness, and success in retirement!

🚨NEW E-BIKE RULES APPROACHING JULY 19🚨

Beginning July 19, New Jersey’s updated e-bike law includes new rules regarding licensing, registration, age requirements, and, for some e-bikes, insurance. These changes are intended to improve safety for riders, pedestrians, and motorists alike.

Before you ride, make sure you know:
• Riders must wear a helmet, regardless of age.
• Riders must be at least 15 years old.
• Riders must have a valid driver’s license or an e-bike license.
• Qualifying e-bikes must be registered with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC).
• Some e-bikes will also require liability insurance, depending on how they are classified.

We encourage all riders and parents to review the new law before July 19 to ensure you’re ready when the changes take effect.
