Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps Non-profit Organization

Mailing address: PO Box 131, Demarest NJ 07627 The Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps was founded in June 1961.

Back then our members were β€œfirst aiders” and their job was administering basic first aid and transporting. The corps has kept pace with the added demands and increased training requirements. Today, our members are EMTs, First Responders and CEVO qualified drivers who attend meetings, drills, as well as numerous personal training classes at several training locations to maintain our certifications

. The Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps operates out of its own headquarters and maintains up-to-date equipment to serve the needs of Demarest and surrounding communities. The Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps would like to thank all those who support us, have supported us, and will continue to support us in the future.

At 1430 hours a call came in for a second alarm fire in Northvale.
Northvale Volunteer Ambulance Corps Chief 231 established EMS Branch and requested Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Corps to provide support. We were joined by Harrington Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps for rehab operations. All agencies worked well through a hot afternoon to a safe conclusion.

The next few days are predicted to be unseasonably hot with temperatures rising into the high 90s by Tuesday.
Stay safe in the heat by following these safety tips:

1. Hydrate
Drink constantly: Drink water every 15 to 20 minutes, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Limit coffee, soda, and alcohol: they cause your body to lose fluids faster.
Monitor indicators: Check your urine color; it should ideally look like pale lemonade, not dark apple juice.

2. Optimize Personal Cooling
Wear lightweight clothes: Choose loose-fitting, light-colored, and breathable fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking synthetic blends.
Protect your skin: Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Seek air conditioning: Spend time in public libraries, shopping malls, or designated cooling centers if your home lacks air conditioning.

3. Adjust Outdoor Habits
Time your outings: Limit outdoor exposure to early mornings or late evenings when temperatures and the UV index are lowest.
Pace your activities: Take frequent, mandatory breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas to let your core temperature drop.
Never leave passengers: Check the backseat every time you park; car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
Check on others: Monitor high-risk individuals regularly, including toddlers, elderly neighbors, and outdoor workers.
