This afternoon at 1544 The County dropped a Box for a reported house fire on Woodland Rd. 26-1 arrived on scene with heavy fire showing from the second floor and attic area and filled out the 2nd alarm. The Cresskill Squad arrived first initially starting off with a deck gun to knock down the bulk of the exterior fire. The Demarest Squad arrived as the second due engine and a total of 3 lines were stretched to knock down the remaining fire in the dwelling. This fire would eventually go to a 3rd alarm with the Southside Companies operating on scene for just over 3 hours before returning to service. Thank you to all of our mutual aid departments for helping on scene and covering the Borough. The fire is currently under investigation by the Demarest Fire Prevention Bureau and Fire Marshall. All operations were under the command of Chief McLoughlin.

The Demarest Fire Department responded to over 60 storm related incidents overnight and into the afternoon in Demarest, Haworth, Closter and Alpine. Multiple streets throughout the borough remain impassable due to downed trees, utility poles, and power lines.

There is currently no estimated time of restoration from Orange & Rockland for residents without power.

If you observe any downed power lines, especially those that are arcing, sparking, or smoking or a fallen tree has caused damage to a structure on your property, please contact us at 201-768-1540. If there is an immediate danger to life or property, call 911.

Please avoid all downed wires, assume they are energized, and stay clear of affected areas while emergency crews continue to work.
