On behalf of the Mount Baker School District, we extend our sincere gratitude to our 11 retirees for their remarkable 308 combined years of service. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment have shaped the lives of countless students, supported colleagues, and strengthened our community. The impact of their work will continue to be felt for generations, and we wish them all the best in their well-earned retirement.

We are looking forward to our work as partners with the Nooksack Tribe as we identify ways to strengthen opportunities and support for all our students.

Today, June 10, 2026, leadership from the Nooksack Indian Tribe met with Mount Baker School District leadership to continue important discussions focused on strengthening educational partnerships, student support, and long-term collaboration for our children and families.

This meeting resulted in several positive steps forward, including continued work toward a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Tribe and the District, development of a Tribal Liaison position, establishment of regular government-to-government communication and consultation, and ongoing collaboration around culturally responsive education and student success initiatives.

Discussions also included strengthening implementation of Since Time Immemorial curriculum, development of Nooksack-centered educational materials such as the Thirteen Moons teachings, expanding family outreach and student advocacy efforts, improving support systems for Native students, and creating stronger pathways between tribal programs, families, and schools.

Both the Tribe and District expressed a shared commitment to building meaningful relationships that move beyond conversation and toward action, accountability, and lasting partnership. Leadership also discussed opportunities for regular check-ins, school board engagement, collaborative advocacy efforts, and exploring new educational opportunities that support student wellness, cultural identity, and academic achievement.

As we continue preparing for more formal consultation and future collaboration, we remain committed to ensuring the voices, needs, and future of our people and our children remain at the center of this work. We appreciate the willingness of Mount Baker School District leadership to work together in a positive and forward-looking way as we continue building stronger relationships for future generations.

🌱 Growth takes root when students, staff, and families work together. Today our school board visited Acme Elementary where students are making remarkable progress in reading, math, and daily attendance.

Just as importantly, these gains were made while strengthening systems to support students every day: from targeted reading and math interventions to a unified approach to data teams and student support. The work isn't finished, but the progress is real.

When students show up, teachers collaborate, and schools stay focused on what matters most, great things happen. Acme is truly the little school with a big heart!❤️🖤
