It’s Touch of Dutch Festival Day in Demotte, and you know what that means… Keener Township VFD’s famous Pork Chop Sandwiches are coming! 🚒❤️

We’ll be serving them immediately following the parade until we run out!

This past Saturday, Keener Township Volunteer Fire Department was requested to assist with a large barn fire in Wheatfield. Our firefighters spent nearly three hours battling the blaze under extremely challenging conditions.

What many don't see is everything that happens behind the scenes. This call came between attending a funeral, and many of our members hadn't had the opportunity to eat. Even after returning from the fire, there was still equipment to clean, trucks to restock, and reports to complete.

When we arrived back at the station, we were greeted with an incredible surprise: fresh Domino's Pizza and McDonaldi's hamburgers waiting for our crew.

A simple meal may not seem like much, but after hours of hard work, it meant everything. It helped replenish our firefighters and reminded us that our community and local businesses truly care about those who serve.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to Domino's Pizza and McDonald's for your generosity and support of our firefighters. Your kindness did not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful to have businesses like you standing behind us.

❤️ Thank you for helping us continue to serve our community.

Yesterday evening at 7:25 p.m. Keener Fire was dispatched to the 200 block of 5th. Ave. N.E. for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival crews found a semi tractor fully involved. Crews had fast water on the fire and had it extinguished in just a few minutes after arrival. Crews prevented the fire from extending to other vehicles nearby. No injuries were reported.

Training is a very important part of being a firefighter. Last week Tuesday our members trained with our battery operated extrication tools. Members split into two groups for some friendly competition. First each member of each group had to carefully pick up a cookie with a tool and stack it on a cone without crushing it. The group with the highest stack won. Next members had to move eggs to the cones without breaking them. Yesterday evening crews trained on drafting operations. Drafting is used in areas where there are no fire hydrants. Crews use tankers to bring water to the scene. The water is dumped into portable dump tanks that the pumper trucks pull water from to supply the hoses used to fight the fire. Here are some pictures from each night.
