Denham Springs, LA – On May 14, 2026, at approximately 5:03 p.m., a Denham Springs Police motor officer was traveling eastbound on US 190 when a vehicle waiting to turn left from Connie Drive pulled out in front of the officer’s motorcycle.

The officer sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital with injuries. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and is still under investigation at this time.

Drivers are advised to avoid US 190 eastbound from 4-H Club Road to Hatchell Lane. An 18-wheeler has spilled fluid in the area, creating extremely slick conditions. Please use alternate routes and proceed with caution.

Traffic Advisory

The traffic signals at South Range Ave & North Street and South Range Ave & Hazelnut are currently nonfunctional and are expected to remain out for most, if not all, of the day.

Please use extreme caution when approaching these intersections and treat them as four-way stops.

Allow extra travel time and be alert for other drivers who may be unfamiliar with proper right-of-way procedures.

⚠️ Weather Alert: Street Flooding and traffic alert

Several roadways that typically hold water are now experiencing flooding due to current weather conditions. Motorists are advised to:

* Avoid low-lying areas and streets prone to flooding
* Turn around if you encounter water covering the roadway — do not attempt to drive through it
* Use caution and allow extra travel time
* Avoid the roundabout at Pete’s Hwy and Cook Road. Heavy standing water.
* Heavy traffic conditions at Hatchell Lane and 190 due to malfunctioning red light.

Please stay alert and monitor local updates. If you don’t have to be on the road, consider staying were you are until conditions improve.
