The Denison Police Department sends our sincere sympathies to the family and loved ones of a respected member of the Denison community.

Throughout his years serving Denison schools, he had a positive influence on many young people through his work as an educator, coach, and athletic director. The lessons he taught and the relationships he built will continue to be remembered by the many students, athletes, coworkers, and community members whose lives he touched.

We are grateful for the time, dedication, and commitment he gave to our community and for the lasting difference he made in the lives of others.

Our thoughts are with his family and all those grieving this loss. May his memory and the impact he made continue to live on throughout our community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ’› SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER! ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸšŒ

With the new school year here, we want to remind everyone that school bus safety is everyoneโ€™s responsibility!

๐Ÿš— Drivers:
๐Ÿ›‘ ALWAYS stop for a school bus when the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.
โš ๏ธ Slow down and stay alert when approaching a school bus.
๐Ÿ‘€ Remember that children may be nearby and could be difficult to see.

๐ŸŽ’ Students:
๐ŸšŒ Stay at least 10 feet away from the curb while waiting for the bus.
โฐ Wait until the bus has completely stopped, the door is open, and the driver says itโ€™s okay before boarding or crossing.
๐Ÿšซ Never walk behind a school bus.
๐Ÿ‘€ Make eye contact with the bus driver before crossing in front of the bus.

๐Ÿ“š Kids are most at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus, so please give them extra space and extra time.

Letโ€™s work together to make sure our students get to and from school safely every day! ๐Ÿ’›

Slow down. Pay attention. Stop for the bus. Protect our kids. ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ“š BACK TO SCHOOL โ€” STOP FOR THE SCHOOL BUS! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸšŒ

As we welcome students back to school, the Denison Police Department would like to remind everyone to slow down, pay attention, and help keep our kids safe! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿšจ When a school bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing, STOP.
๐Ÿ›‘ Give children plenty of space and remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and the bus begins moving again.

Remember:
โ€ข Flashing amber lights = SLOW DOWN & PREPARE TO STOP
โ€ข Extended stop arm = STOP
โ€ข Stay at least 15 feet away from the bus
โ€ข Never pass a stopped school bus when you are required to stop

School buses will be back on our roads, and children may be walking, biking, and crossing streets in our community. Please give yourself extra time, stay alert, and watch for our students.

Itโ€™s Iowa law. Itโ€™s about their safety. ๐Ÿ’™

Letโ€™s work together to make this school year a safe one for everyone!

๐ŸŽ’๐ŸŽ Welcome back, Denison!

E-BIKES & MORE โ€” KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!

With more e-bikes, e-scooters, mopeds, and other electric-powered vehicles on our roads and trails, itโ€™s important to know what youโ€™re ridingโ€”and what rules apply.

Not everything is legally classified as an e-bike. Iowa law has different requirements for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 e-bikes, as well as e-scooters, mopeds, motorcycles, and off-road motorcycles.

Before you buy or ride, take a few minutes to verify what type of vehicle you have and understand where you can legally operate it.

- Know your vehicleโ€™s classification
- Know the speed limits and restrictions
- Know whether registration, insurance, or a license is required
- Follow posted signs and local ordinances
- Ride legally and safely
- Wear a helmet and use appropriate safety equipment

One important reminder: โ€œE-motoโ€ is a marketing term, not a legal vehicle classification. Depending on its equipment and speed, an e-moto may be classified as a moped, motorcycle, off-road motorcycle, or may not be legal for use on Iowa roads or trails.

Thinking about purchasing an e-bike or e-moto? Verify what youโ€™re buying BEFORE you make the purchase.

Stay safe, know the law, and enjoy the ride!

โ˜” Due to the rain, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonightโ€™s National Night Out.

The safety of our community, volunteers, vendors, and staff is our top priority. While weโ€™re disappointed that we wonโ€™t be able to gather tonight, weโ€™re already working on finding a new date to celebrate together.

๐Ÿ“ข Please help us spread the word by sharing this post so everyone is aware of the cancellation.

We will announce the rescheduled date as soon as itโ€™s finalized. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support of the Denison Police Department. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”

The Denison Fire Department is bringing back a summertime favorite during Denison Police Departmentโ€™s National Night Out celebration.

Fire Chief Cory Snowgren announced the department will host a hydrant party for children during the event on Tuesday, Aug. 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Washington Park, pending weather conditions. The activity was approved by DMU and will give kids the chance to cool off while enjoying the community event.
