We are stop #112! How neat!

Stop #112 on America 250 Stops in 250 Days along Iowa's Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway is the Norelius Community Library in Denison, IA.

Comparing Denison's library to Jefferson's, they have the same footprint; however, Denison's architects, Cox & Schoentgen, chose an Italian Renaissance design compared to the Classical Revival design of Jefferson and Ames. All 3 were constructed in 1904.

Denison's first circulating library was organized in 1874 and was located at the West Brick schoolhouse. After several upgrades and changes to the Carnegie Library, the library board decided that more space was needed in 1978. With support from the community, the project was completed in 1985, when the name was changed to Norelius Community Library.

🚨 Friendly Summer Library Program Update 🚨

So… in the middle of all the recent library transitions, schedule shuffling, and what we can only assume was a gremlin living in the registration form, an incorrect date slipped through. 😅

If you registered for the Summer Library Program and saw that materials would be ready or emailed on May 24th — please disregard that date! Summer Library Program materials will officially be ready the first week of June 2026. Thank you for bearing with us while we straighten everything out!

And a HUGE thank you to all the patrons who contacted us and made us aware of the oversight — we truly appreciate your patience, kindness, and willingness to help us catch these little hiccups. 💛

A few helpful reminders:
🌼 Teens & adults are encouraged to register online, but registration is NOT required to participate. We’ll have materials available for anyone who wants to join the fun — registration just helps us estimate attendance.

📚 For children’s participants, we *do* encourage registration so we can be sure we have enough supplies, prizes, and activities for every child who joins us this summer.

🌎 NEW this year: all Summer Library Program materials will be available in both English and Spanish for participants of all ages!

🎨 Also note: Crafternoon programs this summer will begin at **3:30 PM instead of 4:00 PM** to help more patrons attend.

🔎 Don’t miss our Opening Day Scavenger Hunt in the Children’s Library on June 1st ONLY for a chance to win a prize!

🗣️ Join us for Bilingual Conversations — a fun evening of bilingual games and activities designed to help patrons feel more comfortable speaking English and Spanish in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

🫖 Be sure to register for our Garden Tea Party (ages 14+) — wear your fanciest gardening hat (the more ridiculous, the better 🌸👒) and join us for a fun after-hours social event.

🧩 There are still spots available for the Puzzle Contest too! Both events can be registered for online.

🚨 Actualización sobre el Programa de Verano de la Biblioteca 🚨

Bueno… entre todos los cambios recientes en la biblioteca, los ajustes en los horarios y lo que solo podemos atribuir a un duendecillo travieso que se coló en el formulario de inscripción, se nos pasó por alto una fecha incorrecta. 😅

Si te has inscrito en el Programa de Verano de la Biblioteca y has visto que los materiales estarían listos o se enviarían por correo electrónico el 24 de mayo, ¡por favor, ignora esa fecha! Los materiales del Programa de Verano de la Biblioteca estarán oficialmente listos la primera semana de junio de 2026. ¡Gracias por vuestra paciencia mientras lo solucionamos todo!

Y MUCHÍSIMAS gracias a todos los usuarios que se pusieron en contacto con nosotros y nos avisaron del descuido; agradecemos de verdad vuestra paciencia, amabilidad y disposición para ayudarnos a detectar estos pequeños contratiempos. 💛

Algunos recordatorios útiles:
🌼 Se anima a los adolescentes y adultos a inscribirse en línea, pero la inscripción NO es obligatoria para participar. Tendremos materiales disponibles para cualquiera que quiera unirse a la diversión; la inscripción solo nos ayuda a estimar la asistencia.

📚 Para los participantes infantiles, *sí* recomendamos la inscripción para asegurarnos de tener suficientes materiales, premios y actividades para todos los niños que se unan a nosotros este verano.

🌎 NOVEDAD este año: ¡todos los materiales del Programa de Verano de la Biblioteca estarán disponibles tanto en inglés como en español para participantes de todas las edades!

🗣️ Únete a nuestras «Conversaciones bilingües»: una divertida velada con juegos y actividades bilingües pensados para que los asistentes se sientan más cómodos hablando inglés y español en un ambiente relajado y acogedor.
