Annually in Texas, San Jacinto Day is celebrated on April 21st. It commemorates the battle of San Jacinto that took place on April 21, 1836, and was the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. During the battle, Sam Houston led Texan forces to a victory over Mexican General Santa Ana, securing Texas Independence from Mexico. Marking the site is a 570-foot, eight-sided monument, topped by a 34-foot, three-sided, nine-point star. The structure stands as the tallest monument tower in the world and is highlighted by an 1,800-foot-long, 8.4-acre reflecting pool.
