Today, the Denison Police Department joins communities around the world in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day. This day is dedicated to honoring those we have lost to overdose, supporting the families and individuals impacted, and raising awareness to help prevent future tragedies.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use or mental health, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In a medical emergency or life-threatening situation, call 911 immediately.

Local resources are also available in our community. Texoma Community Center provides mental health and substance use services, crisis support, and treatment resources.

Through awareness, compassion, and action, we can help save lives, reduce stigma, and bring hope to those who need it most in our community.

Dolly was more than a music legend. She was a beloved American icon whose kindness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit touched hearts across generations and around the world.

Denison was fortunate to share a special connection with Dolly. One memory our department is especially proud to hold is escorting her during Denison’s Memorial Day Parade in 1992.

We join countless fans and communities in mourning her loss while celebrating an extraordinary life and legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the memories, the laughter, the love, and the light you brought into this world. You will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Denison.

Today we’re celebrating two very special members of our team for International Dog Day, K9 Echo and Facility Dog Wilbur.

K9 Echo serves with courage, loyalty, and dedication, always ready to protect and serve alongside our officers.

Wilbur brings comfort, support, and plenty of smiles to those who need it most.

Case Update: Today, August 19, 2026, Victor Smith pleaded guilty to Theft of Property valued at more than $300,000. Smith was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The Denison Police Department started investigating Victor Paul Smith (age 42) after receiving complaint(s) that, over the past several years, he had been taking money from residents in Grayson County after meeting the victim(s) in his capacity of officiating youth sports.

Victor allegedly would scam residents for money with the promise of paying them back large amounts in the future with no ability and/or intentions of doing so, sometimes hot checks written by Victor were involved.

Victor Paul Smith is currently under arrest in the Grayson County Jail for Theft > $300,000 with a $100,000 bond.
