High temperatures can quickly become dangerous for animals, so it’s important to keep them cool, hydrated, and protected. It’s also the law.

🚨 You can be ticketed or arrested for:
- Leaving a pet in a parked car without proper ventilation or protection from extreme heat.
- Transporting an animal in the back of a truck or open vehicle without a secure, ventilated crate.

Let’s work together to protect Denison’s furry friends and prevent heat-related emergencies!

🚨News Release:

On 5/21/2026 at approximately 8:00 PM Denison Police responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the 500 Block of E. Monterey St.

Officers arrived on scene and determined a domestic disturbance took place where the male suspect fired off multiple rounds in his backyard. Other occupants from the home left the area prior to the gun fire.

The suspect later identified as Eric Pitts, 31 years-old, barricaded himself in the home and refused to comply. Denison’s Special Response Team was activated and arrived on scene along with support from neighboring law enforcement agencies.

The suspect later surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

No injuries were reported and there is no threat to the public.

This is an open investigation.

The Denison Police Department appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents during this incident and would like to thank the Sherman Police Department and the Grayson County Sheriff's Office for their assistance.

This past Friday, members of our department had the privilege of participating in the 10th Annual Texoma Back the Badge Foundation Golf Tournament. ⛳️

Members of our Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association volunteered throughout the event, and our Honor Guard proudly took part in the opening ceremonies.

We are incredibly grateful to the Texoma Back the Badge Foundation for their continued support of local law enforcement agencies.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support. We truly could not do what we do without our community standing behind us. 💙
