Dennis Fire responded to 20 calls during this weekend’s winter storm, including trees down, wires down, a tree that caused a generator fire near a house, and motor vehicle accidents.

We’d like to thank all those who plowed our roadways to keep things accessible for responders and residents alike. We’d like to extend a special thanks to Dennis Township Public Works, who sent plow trucks to Myrtle Avenue at the peak of the storm when we were dispatched to a possible structure fire. We’d also like to thank DJ Repici LLC, who kept our building free of snow & also assisted with freeing an ambulance stuck on the way to the hospital in our district.

At approximately 6:07AM on February 16, Dennis Fire units were dispatched to the area of Dennisville Road and Garfield Avenue for a pole fire.

Units arrived on scene to find a utility pole on fire, with active wires down in the roadway. Units staged on location for approximately 1 hour until the arrival of an AC Electric trouble-truck from Pennsville, who was able to secure the power to the pole once on scene.

Crews then were able to extinguish the fire and nearby embers that had fallen from the burning utility pole.

Some customers may be without power in the area as crews work to restore power today.

Last night, Dennis Fire took advantage of the cold weather and ice conditions to conduct some ice water rescue training. Members drilled on safe rescue techniques on or near ice conditions, particularly on victims who fall thru ice.

Always assume all frozen surfaces could break at any time unless they have been tested by a certified official. Due to changing temperatures and currents, ice thickness and stability can change rapidly.
