It's molt season, so time to bring back one of our favorite comics!

What is molt? When birds molt, they shed their worn and damaged feathers and replace them with new ones.

Don't worry if you see a bald Northern Cardinal, he will grow his feathers back!

To most, Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is a mass of green in the spring and summer, golden tall grass in the fall, with birdsong, the occasional deer, frogs, or bushy-tailed foxes.

But take a closer look. What are the birds attached to that birdsong? What are the plants with light-and-dark-green stalks topped off with a tiny orange cone? Those dark pink flowers pushing through the low green plants? Herein lies biodiversity that many overlook. But how can we tell what’s what? By using community science apps that help us to learn and share biodiversity data with others, like iNaturalist.org. Learn more from Audubon Great Plains at the link in comments.

Our fall fundraiser (and FRIENDraiser) has a new look this year and we hope you'll join us for the fun from 5:00-8:00 pm. Come for an hour or stay for the entire time.

Music & Meadowlarks will be a lovely night of music, food, & friends on the prairie featuring live music from EMILY BASS & THE NEAR MIRACLE, with an opening performance by Kellyn Wooten & Vince Learned.

The event will also have delicious charcuterie from Grazing Gouda provided for all ticketholders as well as drink tickets to purchase wine and local brews. Rutabagas, a Lincoln restaurant, will be on site with vegan and non-vegan nachos for sale. There will also be several activities around the prairie to enjoy and take part in, and opportunities to support the center's conservation and education programs.

$40 - Individual Ticket
$80 - Date Night Package (comes with 2 drink tickets)
$200 - Group Package (buy 5, sixth friend is free!)

We had so much fun with the volunteers and staff from our sister center Rowe Sanctuary! We also had a couple of our volunteers here to help! We started the morning with a birding by ear workshop, and then headed to the prairie to remove some woody invasives!
