Although canine and K-9 are pronounced the same, they mean something different for police work. 🐶👮 Watson and his officer have a certification through the American Working Dog Association that demonstrates their proficiency in explosive detection work. Today we join communities around the world in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day. Overdose can affect anyone, and awareness, education, and quick action can save lives. That's why UNT has made free Narcan (naloxone) available through a vending machine outside Chestnut Hall to help students, faculty, and staff be prepared to respond in an emergency.

✅ Learn the signs of an opioid overdose
✅ Know where to find Narcan on campus
✅ Be ready to help save a life

Partnerships are built by people who are willing to bring ideas to the table and keep finding new ways to connect.

Earlier this week, Chief Ramona Washington presented UNT Assistant Athletic Director Mallory Williams with a UNT Police Department Challenge Coin during a Lunch & Learn with UNT Athletics and UNT Police.

Mallory has been instrumental in strengthening the partnership between Athletics and UNT Police, consistently bringing forward ideas and initiatives that create new opportunities for engagement and collaboration. We appreciate her drive, passion, and genuine commitment to building a strong and lasting partnership between our departments.

Did you know that we have a journalism intern that we hire for the long semesters? They work typically 10-15 hours per week and get to work on the newsletter and other multimedia projects throughout the semester as time allows.

Our current one, Caitlyn Ybarra, has a been a great addition to the team.

"With each story, I’ve gotten to learn and dive into a new topic I often knew very little about," Ybarra said. "I hope to do the same here as I work alongside some of the great police officers who keep this beautiful campus safe."

UNT Police received reports this week of an electric scooter and two electric bicycles stolen from campus bicycle racks....

UNT Police received reports this week of an electric scooter and two electric bicycles stolen from campus bicycle racks. These scooters and E-bikes are considered motor vehicles under the Clery Act. These incidents occurred at Sante Fe Square, Chestnut Hall and near the CVAD building.

If you use an electric scooter or e-bike on campus, take steps to help protect it:

* Use a high-security U-lock when securing your scooter or e-bike.
* Consider using a GPS tracker.
* If possible, remove the battery when it is not in use.
* Consider engraving identifying numbers in an inconspicuous location.

UNT Police offers a free bicycle and scooter engraving program for students. Bring your scooter and a valid form of identification to the UNT Police Department. U-locks are also available while supplies last.

If you see suspicious or dangerous activity, call 911. If you have information about these thefts, contact UNT Criminal Investigative Services at 940-565-3006 or remain anonymous by calling 940-369-TIPS (8477).

Join us Thursdays from 12–1 p.m. for six weeks of practical self-defense techniques, situational awareness and skills you can use in everyday life.
