New to The Portal to Texas History is artwork from the National Museum of the Pacific War Digital Archive by Floyd Kelly, Jr.

The artwork offers a unique insight into the mentality and daily lives of soldiers in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. Drafted to the Navy in September 1943, Floyd Kelly, Jr. spent much of his time on board the USS Napa drawing. His sketches, often confined to a small 8 x 13 cm. notebook, include depictions of everyday life in the Navy, landscapes across the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, ships at sea, and snapshots of intense warfare.

We've added digitized issues of the Pilot Point Post-Signal to The Portal to Texas History provided by the Pilot Point Community Library with funding contributed by the Ladd & Katherine Hancher Library Foundation. The Post-Signal has been serving Northeast Denton County, Texas, for more than 145 years and is the oldest continuing business in Denton County. The collection includes over 550 issues spanning from 1967 to 2015.
