📣Denton City Council: You were elected to represent the people of Denton and our democracy. Don't accept insubordination from hired administrators refusing to comply with the results of the LEGAL CITY ELECTION THAT MADE PROP B LAW ON NOV 8, 2022. The city manager's job is to serve you, not to boss you while serving an overreaching police chief. If a city manager you hired refuses to follow the new law, Prop B, in its entirety, you should respectfully show them the door and find a new one who will follow it and ensure that the police chief does the same (and find a new one if they refuse).

It's your duty as elected representatives to REQUIRE your City Manager to see to it that City of Denton Police Department follows ALL of Prop B. 32k+ of your constituents voted loud & clear that CITE & RELEASE ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!

Prop B compels City of Denton, TX - City Hall officials to STOP:

As the nation holds its breath for what feels like an inevitable decision from the Supreme Court, we want folks who use our services to know that we are here. We have been carrying free reproductive care kits since 2020 that include 2 morning-after pills, condoms, and pregnancy tests. Reproductive care is also harm reduction and we will continue doing what we can to help Texans prevent unwanted pregnancies.

UNT’s chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy prides itself on creating a welcoming environment for people from all walks of life. Given this moment on campus where the safety and security of transgender students is being threatened, SSDP wants to reaffirm its commitment to q***r and trans liberation. The War on Drugs, which we aim to end, has negative effects that disproportionately impact all minorities, including LGBTQIA+ populations. All students are welcome in SSDP, and are deserving of a safe and inclusive educational environment, both inside and outside of our organization.

Additionally, we are disappointed with the UNT administration’s statement simplifying the matter to one of free speech. We see a clear distinction between free speech and the obvious hate speech that’s been demonstrated, in that questioning the legitimacy of a person’s right to existence based on their identity is both hateful and has dangerously genocidal implications. The administration simply cannot claim to both honor the diversity of thought and protect those who thoughts are fundamentally anti-diversity. We respectfully urge the administration to take a firm stance in affirming transgender safety both physically and mentally, and to take action against the bigotry being put on display by students organizations at UNT.
