We're excited to introduce You Otter Buckle Up, a child passenger safety initiative created by local organizations committed to keeping Caroline County's children safe.

The inspiration for this campaign came from a difficult reality. In January 2025, within a single week, several children in northern Caroline County were injured in motor vehicle accidents because they were either unrestrained or improperly restrained. Local EMS providers, emergency department staff, and healthcare professionals witnessed injuries that may have been prevented with proper car seat use.

With financial support from the Caroline County Health Department Maryland and The Caroline Foundation, partners including Caroline County Recreation and Parks, Choptank Community Health System, Caroline County Department of Emergency Services, Caroline County Department of Social Services , Greensboro ES Judy Center Early Learning Hub, Caroline County Public Schools, local fire department volunteers, and many others came together around one simple goal: helping more children get home safely.

Soon, you'll begin seeing our otter friend at schools, parks, athletic fields, healthcare offices, and community spaces throughout the county. We hope these friendly reminders encourage families to take a few extra moments to make sure every child is buckled safely, every ride.

So please enjoy our otter, share the message, and help us spread the word. By working together as a community, we can help ensure more children arrive home safely after every ride.

Today is a bittersweet day as we celebrate Heidi Potter’s last day with Caroline County after an incredible 45 years of service.

Forty-five years is more than a career. It’s a lifetime of dedication, friendships, memories, and a commitment to a community she has helped serve for generations. Staying with one organization for that long is a remarkable milestone and a true reflection of the kind of person Heidi is.

Over the years, Recreation & Parks became more than just a workplace. It became family. Heidi’s impact on her coworkers, the programs she supported, and the countless lives she touched will be felt for years to come.

Heidi, thank you for everything you have given to Caroline County. We hope retirement brings you time to relax, enjoy the things you love most, and make new memories with family and friends. You have certainly earned it. ❤️ Caroline County Recreation and Parks

Congratulations to North Caroline High School’s graduating class of 2026!

This is an exciting time for all of you as you embark on a new journey of your choosing. Although the roads ahead may be filled with detours and challenges, we hope each and every one of you continues to take risks and strive for the future you desire.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain

Congratulations and best wishes from the Caroline County Commissioners, Travis Breeding, Larry Porter, and Frank Bartz.

Tonight is one of those moments you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life. After years of early mornings, late nights, hard work, friendships, and memories, you’ve reached graduation day and that is something to be proud of.

Each of you has your own story and your own path ahead. Some are heading to college, some into careers or service, and some are still figuring out what comes next. Wherever life takes you, trust yourself and keep moving forward.

Caroline County is proud to watch you step into this next chapter with determination, kindness, and resilience. Never forget where you came from or the community that will always be cheering you on.

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, even if the path looks different than you expected.”

Last week, our Public Works team spent time completing bucket truck safety training, continuing to sharpen the skills that help keep Caroline County safe and moving every day. The work they do often happens quietly behind the scenes, but it makes a difference in our community every single day.

We also had the privilege of celebrating Philip Peach for an incredible 40 years of service. Forty years is truly something special and a reflection of the dedication, hard work, and pride he has carried throughout his career serving Caroline County. Please join us in thanking Philip for his many years of service and commitment to our community.

In a rural county like Caroline, emergency medical services are more than important, they are essential. Without a hospital in our county, the care our EMS crews provide on scene and during transport can truly make the difference in someone’s outcome.

What makes Caroline County special is the way our EMS professionals continue pushing forward to bring advanced care to our residents. From rolling out the Whole Blood Program to help save lives in critical emergencies, to being part of Caroline Cares supporting first responder mental health, and leading the way with Alternate Destination Programs that connect people with the right care and resources, our teams are always looking for better ways to serve the community.

This EMS Week, we want to thank the EMTs, paramedics, and volunteers who answer the call every single day. The long hours, missed holidays, overnight calls, and dedication to this county do not go unnoticed. Caroline County is lucky to have people who care this deeply about their neighbors and their community.

The Caroline County Commissioners are incredibly proud to see whole blood now available right here in the field especially as we head into the busy summer months when calls and serious accidents tend to increase across Caroline County. Having this lifesaving resource on hand means our EMS crews can start critical care sooner and give patients the best possible chance when every minute counts.
