Bumblebees like Turk's Cap flowers. They dive into the blooms most of the time, as in the posted images, or when their tongues cannot easily reach the deep floral nectaries they use their strong mandibles to make holes at the borrow of the flowers to suck the nectar. This is called nectar robbing since bumblebees to not cross-pollinate the flower in this case.

I found a native bee on a sunflower inflorescence in the ASSC garden. It is a Curved Pebble Bee, Dianthidium curvatum (Megachilidae), a species of solitary resin bee. Like other members of its genus, it builds and maintains its own nest rather than living in large colonies. Some pebble bees construct unique nests using small stones or pebbles glued together with resin (some collected from sunflower plants).

Same species, three variations. This is biodiversity in action.

Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) colors can range from deep magenta to pale pink, or even turn out double-faced in a genetic mutation called fasciation.

Fasciation is harmless and creates a "double-faced" or multi-headed appearance, like this Coneflower in our gardens.
