Our Days of Combustion event gives you rare, after-hours access to the engineering and horsepower that defined firefighting history. Led by a fire vehicle expert, you will trace the evolution of early motorized apparatus and get a close-up look at these incredible featured rigs:

🔥 Uncover the sparks that built Denver!

🧱Before it was a city of brick, Denver was almost entirely destroyed by fire. Join the Denver Firefighters Museum this Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM for our Remember the Embers gallery talk program!

This time, our museum director will guide you through our major temporary exhibit, Founding a Legacy: the Denver Fire Department. Celebrating 160 years of local firefighting heritage, this exhibit showcases the dramatic fires in Denver in the 1860s that drove citizens to organize the city's very first volunteer hook and ladder company.

Event Highlights:
Expert-Led Tour: An intimate walkthrough detailing the heroic origins of the department.
Rare Artifacts: See original historic items, including the hand-written 1866 Constitution and Bylaws.
Full Access: Your $10 event ticket grants you full admission to explore the rest of our historic 1909 firehouse!

Get ready to go under the hood and behind the scenes of Denver's fire history! The Denver Firefighters Museum is proud to present our Vehicle Deep Dive Series—a two-part journey exploring how firefighters evolved to protect a rapidly growing Mile High City.
Here is what we have lined up for you this month:
🐎 Session 1: Pumpers & Percherons
When: Sunday, May 17 | 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
The Experience: Step back to the 1860s and explore the hand-pulled and horse-drawn era. Best of all, you can meet real horses in person courtesy of Mountain Shadow Carriages!
⚙️ Session 2: Days of Combustion
When: Sunday, May 24 | 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
The Experience: Fast forward to the mechanical age! Explore the evolution of early motorized apparatus, guided entirely by a fire vehicle expert.

Denver firefighters fight the East Turner Hall Fire on July 9th, 1920 from Arapahoe Street.

Chief John Healy noted low water pressure hampered the effort. The manager of the water department, W. F. R. Mills, told the Rocky Mountain News that the fire had broken out in the afternoon, when surrounding residential neighborhoods were watering lawns and gardens. While the structure was largely destroyed, the sandstone columns and cornerstone are still visible at 2140 Arapahoe Street.
