🚧 ROAD CLOSURE/REPAIR ALERT – SR 272 (READING ROAD) 🚧

PennDOT Lancaster County Maintenance will be milling and paving the intersection of SR 272 (Reading Road) and Colonel Howard Boulevard to repair a large dip and bump caused by shifting asphalt.

🚫 ROAD CLOSURE REQUIRED: Because repairs are needed in both lanes, the roadway will need to be closed during construction.

📅 Planned Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026
🌧️ Weather Backup Dates: November 5–6, 2026

Work is expected to take one day, weather and permit approval permitting.

⚠️ MOTORISTS: PLAN AHEAD! Avoid the intersection during construction, use alternate routes, follow posted detours, and allow extra travel time.

Thank you for your patience as PennDOT completes these necessary repairs.

💧 Is Your Septic System Due?
If your property has an on-lot septic system, remember the 3-year rule! Regular pumping is an important part of keeping your system working properly—and it’s required under East Cocalico Township’s On-Lot Sewage Management Program.

Having your septic system pumped on schedule can help prevent costly repairs and system failure, protect your property, and safeguard our local streams and groundwater.

🚛 PUMP IT. Have your system pumped by a licensed septic hauler at least once every three years.

📋 REPORT IT. When your system is pumped, have your septic hauler complete the required Inspection/Pumping Report.

🌿 PROTECT IT. Routine maintenance helps protect your property, our groundwater, local streams, and the environment.

Taking care of your septic system today can help prevent much bigger—and more expensive—problems tomorrow.

🔥 It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, a time to remind everyone that a few simple safety habits can make a big difference in preventing fires and protecting your family.

This year’s theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™” and focuses on the safe use and charging of lithium-ion batteries found in many of the devices we use every day.

🔋 Remember these charging safety tips:
• Always use the charging equipment designed for your device.
• Charge devices on a hard, stable surface — not on beds, couches, or under pillows.
• Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
• Stop using batteries or devices that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, or have an unusual odor.
• Purchase products that have been tested and certified by a recognized testing laboratory.

🚒 This is also a great time to recognize the firefighters who serve our community. We want to thank the dedicated volunteers of Stevens Fire Company and the Cocalico Area Fire Department for their commitment to protecting our residents and community.

Take a few minutes this week to check your home, talk with your family about fire safety, and make sure everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
