The Metro Denver Homeless Initiative (MDHI) joins the City of Englewood and the entire Metro Denver region in mourning the sudden passing of Mayor Pro Tem Joe Anderson.

Joe was a compassionate voice for our unhoused neighbors. Throughout his service, he consistently championed housing dignity and collaboration on solutions to homelessness. This work included co-founding Change The Trend, a collaborative network of non-profits, churches, and community leaders tackling homelessness in Englewood. He understood that building a stronger community meant serving its most vulnerable, and his dedicated efforts made a lasting impact across Englewood and Arapahoe County.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were impacted by his leadership and service.

As we close out Colorado's birthday month, we are reflecting on the shared effort it takes to solve homelessness. MDHI is proud to serve Metro Denver, but our work is also deeply connected to partners across the state. Ending homelessness requires all of us working together.

Thank you to our local stakeholders, community members, and statewide partners for your ongoing dedication to building safe, stable housing solutions for all Coloradans.

Last week, MDHI Executive Director Jason Johnson and Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Denver Housing Authority and MDHI Board Member Joshua Crawley joined the 2026 Metro Denver Chamber Access Denver Cohort. This annual program, hosted by the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation, connects newly appointed and new-to-region leaders with local business and civic influencers to accelerate regional understanding and relationship-building.

We are grateful for the opportunity to join in on this event and make new connections in the community we serve!

This week is the first ever Supportive Housing Week! SHW is an opportunity for members of Congress to see supportive housing in action and the impact it has on their districts and community.

Follow our partners at CSH as they share stories and spread the word on how important supportive housing is.

Supportive Housing Week officially begins today! In communities across the country, housing providers will be opening their doors to members of Congress to show how supportive housing helps people stay housed and build stability.

"It can be challenging to measure success in reducing homelessness, but in a presentation to Denver’s Community Planning and Housing Committee, the city’s Department of Housing Stability (HOST) attempted to do just that. According to Jeff Kositsky, the department's deputy director of housing opportunity, its efforts are driven by an underlying question: “How can we get you back to a safe place?”

The City and County of Denver has activated cooling centers Thursday, August 6 through Sunday, August 9, 2026. Visit any open Denver Parks and Recreation rec center or Denver Public Library location during regular business hours if you need a place to cool off from the heat.

Denver Central Library will open at 11 a.m. and extend hours to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Carla Madison Recreation Center will open at 8 a.m. and extend hours until 8 p.m. on both days.

As summer comes to a close and schools plan to be back in session, organizations across the Metro Denver region are hosting school supply drives to make sure children in need of backpacks, notepads, books and more are prepared for the upcoming semester.

We want to give a shout out to all of the organizations, government agencies, schools, volunteers, and donors who have already participated in or have organized these drives! Ensuring children across our region receive the necessary materials to have a successful school year is a collective effort, made possible through the continued dedication of our community.
