Emotional abuse can look like manipulation, constant criticism, guilt tripping, isolation, control, intimidation or making someone question their own reality. Over time, these behaviors can deeply affect a person's mental health and safety.

Instagram recently removed the option for end-to-end encryption for direct messages. This means that messages that were previously only viewable by the sender and recipient can now be viewed by the platform, too.

Why does it matter? For survivors seeking support or sharing sensitive information, anything shared through direct messages on Instagram is now not completely confidential, as Instagram itself will be able to see any messages sent. However, this also means that Instagram can more easily address harmful or malicious direct messages.

This change is not necessarily good or bad, but it's something that advocates and survivors need to be aware of.

What an amazing time we had at the Denver's Colfax Marathon last weekend! Thanks to all the runners and teams (Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP, -City Attorney's Office, and PSG staff, friends and family) who selected Project Safeguard as their charity partner.
