Maverick had been locked away in the car for weeks, presented with signs of abuse, and his face was covered with blood 😭
my god!! I don’t think I would survive this kind of trauma and pain, knowing what my dog went through. It would just be too much.
I really hope Andrew is receiving incredible support while he navigates this. My heart is absolutely crushed for him. The more details that come out, the more gutted I feel. Truly unfathomable. 💔
BREAKING: Arrest Made In Maverick’s Case After Weeks Of Waiting
Miami, Florida - There is finally an arrest in Maverick’s case. Deputies in Miami-Dade Florida reportedly arrested 28-year-old Andrew Lee Jansen early Saturday morning on a fugitive warrant, weeks after officials say Maverick, a husky who belonged to deployed Aurora airman Andrew Beckham, was found dead inside Beckham’s abandoned vehicle in Denver.
Beckham reportedly trusted Jansen to watch his home and care for Maverick while he was deployed with the Air Force.
According to FOX31/KDVR, Beckham later checked his doorbell camera and reportedly saw Jansen taking Maverick out at night, then getting into Beckham’s car without telling him where he was going.
Beckham told FOX31 that about an hour before Jansen left, Jansen reportedly called police and said someone was trying to break into the house. After that, Beckham said all contact stopped. Denver police later found Beckham’s abandoned 2014 Subaru Forester in the 300 block of North Logan Street, with Maverick dead inside.
This story is heartbreaking because Maverick was not just a dog. Beckham rescued him as a puppy while stationed in Spain, and the two had been together for 11 years. Beckham said Maverick had been with him through deployments, long days, and lonely nights. He told FOX31, “I feel like I’ve lost a part of home. Like there’s a hole in my chest where he should be.”
After Maverick was found, Beckham reportedly said he was able to see his body and believed there were signs of possible abuse. He told FOX31 that Maverick was trapped in the vehicle for weeks and that his face was covered in blood. Maverick’s remains were being examined at Colorado State University, and Jansen is now being held in Florida pending extradition, according to officials.
Now Jansen is in custody of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Since he was just arrested this morning, well be keep tracking of when he'll be extradited back to Coloroad.
In the meantime, we're told Jansen was reportedly in the area because his dad was in the hospital and he reportedly went to go visit him. While there, an off-duty deputy working there recognized Jansen and took him into custody.
In the meantime, Jansen could fight the extradition.
We'll definitely stay on top of this one.
