The Brighton Youth Commission (BYC) is recruiting adult members, and we’d love your help sharing this opportunity.

BYC is a youth-adult partnership focused on empowering young people, building leadership skills, and creating positive change in Brighton. Adult members serve as mentors and collaborators, working alongside youth on meaningful projects that elevate youth voice in our community.

This is not a traditional board or commission, it’s a chance to build real relationships with youth and support their leadership development.

BYC initiatives include:
• SPEAK Week mental health awareness campaign
• Youth leadership development
• Community service and civic engagement projects
• Youth representation on local boards and commissions

Meetings: 1st & 3rd Thursdays | 5:00–7:30 PM (dinner at 5:00)

Apply by May 15: https://www.brightonco.gov/1383/Brighton-Youth-Commission

SPEAK Week may be coming to a close, but the message behind it does not end here. 💛

Thank you to every student, educator, volunteer, sponsor, family member, and community partner who helped make this year’s SPEAK Week possible. Your support helped create meaningful conversations, powerful moments of connection, and reminders to people that they are not alone.

Together, we continue the important work of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and creating communities where it is safe to speak, safe to feel, and safe to ask for help.

As SPEAK Week ends, we encourage everyone to carry its mission forward:
Be kind.
Check in on one another.
Lead with empathy.
Speak up.
And continue creating spaces where mental health conversations are welcomed—not avoided.
Kindness costs nothing, but it can mean everything.
Thank you for helping us make year 15 of SPEAK Week so impactful.

The conversation continues because of you. 💛

Happy SPEAK Week from the Brighton Youth Commission!

Today marks the beginning of SPEAK Week—a youth-led initiative dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging conversations around mental health.

This week, we recognize that mental health impacts all of us—whether personally, through someone we love, or within our broader community. We honor those who are navigating mental health challenges, those supporting others through difficult times, and those we have lost.

SPEAK Week is a reminder that no one should struggle in silence. Your story matters. Your voice matters. You matter.

Together, let’s continue building a community where it is safe to speak up, ask for help, and support one another.

💙 Be kind.
💙 Check in on your people.
💙 Keep the conversation going.
