COMPASSION IN ACTION 💙

Earlier this year, while manning District 4's satellite office, Community Officer Tim Tran met an elderly couple who stopped in on their way to receive medical treatment nearby. While speaking with the couple, he learned that since relocating to Denver, they had been living in a local church's storage space, and that this had been their living situation for nearly three years. Wanting to help them find a better, more private living situation, Officer Tran connected the couple with Denver Police Outreach Case Coordinator (OCC) Esquivel. OCC Esquivel met with them on February 4th and immediately got to work on their behalf. Using funds from a private donor through the Denver Police Foundation, OCC Esquivel was able to secure a residence for them, paying their deposit and first month’s rent, and acquiring furniture and other household necessities. On March 13th, just over a month later, OCC Esquivel met with the couple to hand them the keys to their new residence!

OCC Esquivel's dedication helped this couple find stability after years of existing in an uncertain living situation, and we’re proud to have her on our team!

🚨 SCAM ALERT SATURDAY: BANKING SCAM

On April 20, 2026, a victim walked into the District 2 station to report a fraud incident. The victim explained he got a call from the suspect who claimed to be a representative with his banking institution and told him there were pending charges on his account that appeared to be fraudulent. They instructed him to open his banking app, where the supposed charges were listed in his transactions. The suspect then claimed that this was part of a federal investigation into the banking institution's employees and instructed the victim to drive to the nearest branch, where he was instructed to withdraw $12,300 and not tell anyone the reason why. After doing so, the suspect instructed the victim to go to a courier service and ship the cash to an address in Florida. Only after the fact did he realize he had been scammed.

🔎 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU RECIEVE A CALL LIKE THIS:

• If you receive an unexpected call about fraud, hang up immediately and call your bank using the official number on the back of your card.
• Never send cash through the mail, a shipping service, or a courier.
• Government agencies and banks will not ask you to transfer money to a “secure” account or mail it to a different location.
• Contact the Denver Police Department at (720) 913‑2000.
• Report suspicious banking texts or calls to the Colorado Attorney General at stopfraudcolorado.gov.
• File financial impersonation scams at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Stay alert, stay informed, and help protect our community from fraud.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH IS ALMOST OVER🏍

But safety should remain a priority all year long, especially during the summer months where we often see an increase in motorcyclists on the road. Motorists are reminded to drive with extra caution and share the road.

Here are some tips for drivers to help avoid colliding with a motorcycle:

🛵➡️ Allow extra space when following a motorcycle as they can stop and turn more quickly than other vehicles.

🚧🛣️ Allow motorcycles the full width of a lane at all times.

👀⚠️ Motorcycles can be hard to see at a distance, so use extra caution when turning left at an intersection.

🪞👁️‍🗨️ Check your mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles before changing lanes or merging with traffic.

🚫📱🍷 Never drive distracted or impaired.

Additionally, motorcyclists are also urged to take precautions to remain safe on the road by wearing protective gear, obeying the speed limit and never riding impaired. Most motorcyclists who are killed in traffic crashes are not wearing helmets.
