Last year, a La Plata County Jail commander was charged with over 100 counts of invasion of privacy and official misconduct after he was accused of viewing over 3,000 strip-search videos between 2019 and 2024.

What happened in La Plata County should not happen anywhere.

Colorado House Democrats passed a law this session, sponsored by Rep. Katie Stewart and Rep. Javier Mabrey, to improve jail safety standards, prevent sexual assault in jails and protect whistleblowers.

The law requires detention centers to create sexual assault prevention policies and only allows a peace officer to review a video recording of a strip search for a legitimate law enforcement purpose AND with approval from the sheriff.

Across the US, we are seeing the highest number of measles cases since 1991.

Trump’s newest executive order blatantly dismisses recommendations from medical professionals about these preventable diseases and will risk the health and safety of Coloradans.

We knew that Trump and RFK Jr. would attack vaccine access, which is why we passed a law (SB26-032) this year to protect Coloradans’ access to vaccines and science-based decision-making, regardless of the federal government’s misguided vaccine policies.

Colorado Democrats passed laws to protect Coloradans from federal attacks.
💰 SB26-009 will ensure that nonprofit organizations that have lost their federal tax-exempt status for politically motivated reasons remain exempt from state sales tax.
🏠🐶 HB26-1045 will protect equal housing opportunity for Coloradans with disabilities.
👩🏽‍🎓👨🏼‍🎓 HB26-1141 helps prevent discrimination in public schools based on disability, race, sexual orientation and other protected classes.
