CCHN was honored to recognize Representative Matt Soper and Representative Julie McCluskie with Community Health Champion Awards this summer. These awards represent our gratitude for the work they did throughout their tenures in the state legislature to support Community Health Centers and affordable access to integrated primary care.

During National Health Center Week last week, Nick Widmyer, Director of Federal Affairs, National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) joined CCHN staff this week for visits to Denver Health, Peak Vista Community Health Centers, Pueblo Community Health Center, and Salud Family Health.

It was great having a national partner join us to see firsthand the incredible work Colorado Community Health Centers do to support access to affordable, high-quality primary care. CCHN looks forward to our continued partnership with NACHC to support CHCs with the resources they need to thrive.

Happy National Health Center Week!
Yesterday, CCHN’s CEO, Ross Brooks, joined The Colorado Health Foundation for a virtual briefing to discuss health care affordability and access, and what the data from their annual Pulse Poll may mean for Community Health Centers, advocates, policymakers, and partners working to bring health in reach for all Coloradans.

Ross’ main message: Health coverage matters. As a system, we must invest in primary, preventative, and integrated care to improve population health and reduce total health care spend in the state.

The key takeaway: health care affordability is impacting a majority of Coloradans. Those who fall into demographics most commonly served by Community Health Centers (CHCs) are seeing it the worst.

National Health Center Week is an opportunity to celebrate the vital work of Community Health Centers, also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers, across the nation. These centers are an important part of the healthcare safety net. CHI recently partnered with the Colorado Community Health Network to use data from the Colorado Health Access Survey and other sources to learn more about Coloradans who utilize health centers offering a discounted fee.
