May is Mental Health Awareness Month. đź’š

At the Northglenn Police Department, we know mental health affects everyone. It’s something we all experience differently, but it’s important that we continue supporting one another and reminding people they are never alone.

This month, members of our department shared what “Mental Health Is…” to them. Their answers are honest, personal and a reminder that mental health can mean strength, healing, support, growth and hope.

Take a moment to watch the video and remember: it’s okay to ask for help.

❎Triple-digit speeds are never acceptable. 102 in a 40 on a city street puts everyone at risk.

On May 22, officers witnessed an Audi speed through a red light before accelerating to more than 100 mph in a posted 40 mph zone. The driver continued southbound at dangerous speeds, weaving through traffic and crossing solid lane lines.

After activating emergency lights, officers briefly got the vehicle to stop on the I-25 on-ramp, but the driver suddenly fled back into traffic, cutting off another vehicle while merging onto I-25. Due to the extreme speeds and reckless behavior, the incident created a serious danger to everyone on the roadway.

Officers were able to identify the vehicle and track down the driver at a nearby residence. The suspect admitted to driving and said he fled because he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was arrested and taken to the Adam's County Detention Facility on the charges of reckless driving, speeding more than 40 mph over the limit, eluding law enforcement, running a red light and driving without a valid license.

🎶 It’s Friday, Friday… gotta buckle up on Friday (and everyday)

We’re joining with the Colorado Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies across the country for the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement happening right here in Northglenn.

To help spread the message, our officers decided to give Rebecca Black a little roadside safety advice.

Whether you’re headed to work, school, or cruisin’ into the weekend:
✔️ Buckle up
✔️ Put the phone down
✔️ Drive safe

Because the only ticket you want this Friday… is maybe a concert ticket.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Gordon Lawcock on receiving one of the highest honors in impaired driving enforcement.

Last night, Sergeant Lawcock was recognized by MADD Colorado and the Colorado Department of Transportation at their annual Law Enforcement Champion Dinner, where he received the Colonel Mark V. Trostel Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, MADD’s highest honor bestowed upon an individual.

This award is presented to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to impaired driving enforcement, traffic safety and the prevention of underage drinking throughout their career. To say Sergeant Lawcock embodies those qualities would be an understatement.

Sergeant Lawcock has dedicated his career to making Colorado roadways safer through leadership, education, mentorship and enforcement. From training hundreds of officers across multiple agencies to becoming a highly respected Drug Recognition Expert Instructor and collision reconstruction specialist.

Since joining the Northglenn Police Department, Sergeant Lawcock has elevated our traffic safety and impaired driving enforcement/education programs to unprecedented levels.

More importantly, his work saves lives.

We are incredibly proud to have Sergeant Lawcock serving our community and representing the Northglenn Police Department across the State of Colorado and the country.

Congratulations, Sergeant Lawcock, on this well-deserved and prestigious honor.

You can run, but you can’t hide.

On May 15, officers responded to a shoplift at an auto parts store in Northglenn. Officers quickly located a male matching the description in the area, but the suspect fled.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area before locating the suspect’s helmet, backpack and bicycle hidden near a creek southwest of W. 104th Ave. and Bannock St. Officers then searched the creek area and successfully located the suspect hiding. Despite initially refusing commands, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation revealed the suspect was responsible for multiple shoplifting cases which totaled more than $1,700.

This week, we recognize , a time to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers across the nation, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Members of the Northglenn Police Department, retirees and community members planted flowers at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park, a small gesture that reflects the spirit of service and community that Police Week represents. The flower planting serves not only to beautify the park, but also as a remembrance of Corporal E.B. Rains Jr., who gave his life in the line of duty while serving the Northglenn community.

On Monday, Mayor Meredith Leighty and City Council issued a proclamation officially declaring this week as Police Week in the City of Northglenn. We are grateful for their continued support of our department and all those who serve our community.

Police Week serves as a reminder that behind every badge is a commitment to protecting others, and for many families, a sacrifice that will never be forgotten. To all current and former law enforcement officers, and to the families who stand beside them, thank you.
