Meet a Sunshine Match!
Pam (74) has lived in her home in Centennial for 30+ years. She ran an aquarium business out of her house for most of her career and is semi-retired. She previously had a roommate for 6-7 years before they moved out and she lived alone for a year before wanting another roommate for additional income and companionship. She was referred to Sunshine Home Share feeling like Sunshine is a “great program that vets people.”
Jerri (74) was looking for an affordable place to live. Jerri used to work as a florist for most of her career. She also worked as a math fellow for DPS helping 6th and 7th graders learn math. Currently she works for DoorDash. Jerri lived in a house with her son’s mother-in-law and some of the mother-in-law’s family moved in too. When the mother-in-law and her family decided to buy a bigger house and move, Jerri decided not to move with them. She found another place to live, but rent got expensive and she needed more affordability. She heard about Sunshine Home Share from another social service organization and decided to apply.
When Pam and Jerri first met, they immediately hit it off as they connected over similar life experiences and felt like they were very similar people. They noted that they “read each other’s minds a lot” and Jerri expressed that reading Pam’s bio was like reading her own bio.
Pam and Jerri describe their companionship as “better than sisters” because of how close they are. They have fallen into a happy and comfortable routine with each other expressing that oftentimes Pam cooks and Jerri cleans. Jerri also empties the dishwasher and vacuums as Pam finds she can no longer physically do that comfortably. They also watch game shows at night together and Pam’s two dogs and two cats love Jerri, one of her cats even sleeps with Jerri at night. They expressed how they “have fun together.” Pam noted that extra rent comes in handy and Jerri is always good about paying it on time and Jerri expressed how helpful the affordability is.
Pam’s friends have taken Jerri in and they have Sunday fun days every other week where they all get together. Their families have also welcomed each other in and they go to each other’s family events. Jerri and Pam noted that they are “soulmates” because of how close their friendship is and how similar they are. They also noted how their relationship came “very natural.” Pam and Jerri have lived together for a year and a half and plan to continue home sharing for a long time.
