We had a great start to F.I.R.E.’s Hands on Training Week with today’s fire ground bailout class. Firefighters from several front range departments came to learn and train together. Technician Jonathan Timms led the class with a cadre of great instructors.

F.I.R.E.’s Leadership at Every Level series continued with part 3. Captain Mike Evans presented on Team Leadership: Leading With Purpose. We had members from Denver, South Adams, and West Metro who took time attend and learn about core values, building a leadership philosophy, team dynamics, and leading with purpose.

Just in time for summer days by the pool, at the lake, or around the campsite!

Our June book drawing will feature your choice of one of two outstanding books by renowned fire service author Frank Viscuso.

The available titles are:
35 Things Every Fire Officer Must Know and Do
35 Things Every Firefighter Must Know and Do

Both books serve as practical guides for new and experienced firefighters and company officers alike. Each contains 35 chapters centered on a core lesson, providing real-world context, leadership insights, and reflection prompts designed to help readers evaluate their strengths and identify opportunities for growth.

Winners of the June drawing will be able to choose either book. F.I.R.E. members check your email for sign up link.

Congratulations to the winners of the May book drawing for Quiet Professionalism: A Way to Work by Rob Shaul.

While this book is newly published, Rob Shaul has been developing the concept of Quiet Professionalism for years through a series of essays available on the MTI website. The result is a collection of concise, thought-provoking passages designed to be read and reflected on over time—not rushed through cover to cover.

This is a book you return to in small doses. Each entry reinforces a simple but demanding standard: control what you can, execute without noise, and let consistency—not identity or emotion—carry performance.
