Yolanda Ortega has worn many important hats throughout her life: Vice President of Students Affairs at Metropolitan State University of Denver, radio host at KUVO Jazz, cultural worker, mentor and community activist. But there’s no denying that the stage holds a special place in her heart. She began her acting career on the streets of Denver where she sang and performed with the acclaimed company Su Teatro long before they had a brick and mortar to call home. The Chicano Movement was at its height and Yolanda and her peers echoed the struggles of the times through performance. She talked to #IAmDenver about her career and activism. Toad-ally Exciting News: Conserving the Boreal Toad in Colorado

Denver Zoo works tirelessly here and around the world to improve our planet for wild animals, wild places and future generations. Last week, they picked up 95 boreal toads. Along with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, they hope to raise and release as many as 20,000 tadpoles into the Colorado wilderness next summer, which will provide a significant boost to the dwindling species that is listed as endangered in Colorado and New Mexico. 👏🙌🐸
