S*xual assault is surrounded by harmful myths that can silence survivors and prevent people from getting the support they deserve.

Let’s set the record straight ⬇️

❌ Myth: S*xual assault is usually committed by strangers
✅ Fact: Most survivors know the person who harmed them

❌ Myth: What someone wears or how they act can cause assault
✅ Fact: S*xual assault is never the survivor’s fault

❌ Myth: If someone didn’t fight back, it wasn’t assault
✅ Fact: Trauma responses can include freezing or compliance

❌ Myth: It's okay to talk someone into s*xual activity
✅ Fact: This is coercion, a tactic used to pressure, manipulate, or intimidate someone into s*x

Everyone deserves to feel safe, believed, and supported. By challenging these misconceptions, we can create a community that stands with survivors.

🩵 If you or someone you know needs support, help is available.

When survivors speak out, they deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.

At Denver’s Start by Believing event, our Program Director, Natasha Adler, shared her experience as a survivor and her professional insight into the realities many survivors face. Her words were a powerful reminder that disbelief can deepen harm, while compassion and validation can be the first step toward healing.

At the Rose Andom Center, we believe survivors. We meet people where they are, honor their experiences, and recognize the immense courage it takes to come forward. Through the Family Justice Center model, survivors can access the support, resources, and advocacy they deserve in one place, surrounded by a team that is here to listen and stand with them.

Thank you, Natasha, for your courage, your voice, and your unwavering commitment to survivors. 💜

Did you know? Survivors can access comprehensive medical care right at the Rose Andom Center 💜

Our on site Denver Health Clinic provides a wide range of services designed to support healing and overall well being, including injury treatment and follow up care, gynecologic care and STI testing, pregnancy and prenatal care, pediatric visits, chronic disease management, flu shots, and behavioral health support for those experiencing anxiety, depression, or substance use.

Care is available to clients by appointment, and no insurance is required. Survivors are never required to report to law enforcement to receive services. We believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, survivor centered care, no matter their circumstances.

This work is made possible through the support of our community. Proceeds from our Blooming Hope S*xual Assault Awareness Month Brunch will help fund critical SANE exam equipment in our Health Clinic, ensuring survivors have access to timely, trauma informed medical care when they need it most.

🌸 Join us on April 18 and be part of expanding access to care. Your support makes a direct impact - get your tickets today to support survivors: https://secure.everyaction.com/sXnDtIQl5UKyLPddqXMQJQ2

At the Rose Andom Center, we are committed to removing barriers so survivors can access the support they need in a way that feels safe, accessible, and empowering 💜

We offer bilingual Spanish-speaking advocates and interpretation in over 200 languages to ensure survivors can communicate comfortably and clearly. For those who may not be able to come in person right away, optional over-the-phone intakes are available. We also provide safe, engaging childcare during business hours so caregivers can focus on receiving services and support in-person.

Survivors and their families have access to essential items like food and toiletries, as well as transportation assistance, including RTD vouchers and ride services, to help make getting to and from appointments easier.

Most importantly, no report or legal action is ever required to receive services. We meet survivors where they are and support them in making the choices that are right for them.

Everyone deserves to be met with dignity, compassion, and care on their path toward healing.

S*xual violence is more common than many people realize, and it often occurs within relationships or among people who know each other.

Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men have experienced r**e in their lifetime. In the U.S., 1 in 10 women have been r**ed by an intimate partner, showing how closely s*xual violence and intimate partner violence can intersect.

The impacts are significant and long lasting. 81% of women and 35% of men who experienced r**e, stalking, or physical violence from an intimate partner report serious effects such as injuries, post traumatic stress symptoms, or other lasting health impacts.

Many survivors know the person who harmed them. Over half of female survivors of r**e (51.1%) report the perpetrator was an intimate partner, and 40.8% report it was an acquaintance. Among male survivors, 52.4% report the perpetrator was an acquaintance.

S*xual violence also includes coercion and unwanted s*xual contact. An estimated 13% of women and 6% of men experience s*xual coercion, and 27.2% of women and 11.7% of men experience unwanted s*xual contact during their lifetime.

At the Rose Andom Center, survivors of domestic violence and s*xual assault can access supportive services, advocacy, and resources in one safe place. You are not alone and help is available.
